    1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster trunk handle

I have a problem with my trunk handle after I got it chromed. When I turn the handle, the small shaft does not turn. I have been told that it cannot be welded because the top is pot metal and the shaft is steel. Maybe it can be braised! We tried putting a pin in, but it did not hold. I tried gluing with airplane glue, but it did not hold. I believe these handles are similar for 1942-1948.

    See pictures on my website:

    Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    Bob
