I made it back home yesterday morning. I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers….they mean a lot.
I and my family are doing OK, mostly adjusting to the new normal. Settling Moms’ estate is going as well as can be expected.
In a way we’ve been getting ready for this since Moms’ stroke 5 years ago. We didn’t know whether she was going to make it, so some things (including planning her funeral) were done way back then. Then last year when she moved into the extended care facility her wishes were to go ahead and distribute family items and sell the house (that was a month I never want to go thru again). Pretty much those were the 2 hardest jobs to get thru. That just pretty much leaves the paperwork and to tie up loose ends to settle the estate.
I’m a little melancholy about the old family farm. When Grandma died in the 1980s, the original farm was split into 3 pieces between my Dad, Uncle and Aunt (Grandma and Grandpas wishes). Dad held on to his acreage and rented it. The land has been in the Patterson family for 120 years and 5 generations have lived there. My brother, sister and I have decided to go ahead and sell it. In a way I guess letting it go now is appropriate. Neither my brother or I had any male children, so when we’re gone there are no more Patterson’s to carry on the name from this branch of the family tree. It was a Patterson who bought the farm and it will be a Patterson that sells it.
.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not.
Both are equally terrifying.
