Still used by some SEALs and other Special Forces. I saw several in the DEVGRU (casually known as Seal Team Six) armory at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story when I was working for the Navy Facilities Engineering Command.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. My grandson qualified with a 9mm a couple of months ago, Expert, and I know there has been talk of the Marine Corps reverting back to the 1911 for the same reason they went to it in the first place. But as I understand it, only talk.
give me an old worn 1911 . fire every time . and it is for close combat. like 10 ft !
well i dont own a gun so i cant join the gun conversation but i also no longer own a 69 HOSS429 mustang nor a 73 pinto nor a 78 ford truck nor anything associated with building any vehicles in the future .. i do have a nice large completely empty garage .. i have been quit drinking for a few months now and feel great but the alcohol was the driving force behind the need for loud and fast things .. i have lost all interest in hot rodding . my eyesight has failed so much in the past year that driving has become difficult anyway much less driving impaired .. although my stang always managed to find its way back home no matter how drunk i got in it ..i have not been driven away .. i just have nothing to add anymore ...
But Hoss, you have knowledge.....this web site is about sharing knowledge, not telling someone about your latest BM. You have added good info in the past and will probably be able to continue with the good info even if you don't have any cars/trucks. I bet someone once that I could go a year without drinking...I did and won a case of beer! I was up to 25 Diet Cokes a day so I quit cold turkey...about 12 years ago. Now I am afraid to drink pop because I know it will be sickening sweet. Best wishes for your abstinence goal.
In addition to the shows/events (from Goodguys type to industrial , local special drag race events to NHRA events) taking hundreds of up close detail showing pics to the shop work/machining processes , I feel that I have added lots over the years AND would continue to add pics of the cars, show developing processes of how to find horse power/torque, machining set up to correct tolerances to desired end results( if you don't understand how to do it, you can't understand Tech's writings about STACK-----)balancing, etc---------
And then add in basic vehicle suspension/steering/drive line-------
As much as I want to, I can't type the words that will tell as much as some detailed pics help with set ups-------
This place needs an easy way to add pics out of real cameras, without having to photoshop/resize/enhance and / or ---------- NEED SOME MORE COFFEE
Sorry to hear that Hoss. Alcohol can really be a PITA, I've been sober for for 24 years so I know from where you come. Please stick with us, I've always enjoyed your posts as I believe there are others who feel as I do.
I have a Stainless Colt Combat Commander (in. 45) that is my go to Gun, although I've been collecting S & W Revolvers for over 35 Years (I'm trying to get at least one of every S & W Revolver made-I'm slowly getting there), but I also love Colts & Rugers-you sure can't go wrong with a 1911-
I've stopped drinking several times, once because I was having issues, a couple times because it got boring. Once, I substituted Cokeacola for the beer, and ended up having a real bad day when I overdid it. Now I avoid soda almost completely.
And the beer is boring again.
every gun i own has a purpose and a location. dont have a lot of guns but enough that i am never more than 20ft from one. in my world every driveway is heavily armed and most have power gates .
Thank you Hoss for sharing with us, the family here, about where you are with health and your personal battles. I admire you for been up front and totally honest with us as one has already mentioned, there is absolutely no rules here saying one must own or be building a vehicle to be a valuable member of the family so please drop by anytime and we will have the coffee jug brewing for you.
