    Fiat Chrysler Hammered Again

Wow, a record $105,000,000 civil fine was bad, but now FCA is facing a forced buyback of hundreds of thousands of RAM trucks, SUV's and cars. Models included in the buy-back offer are certain Ram 1500s from 2009 to 2012; the Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4 by 4 from 2008; and the Ram 2500 4 by 4, 3500 4 by 4, 4500 4 by 4, and 5500 4 by 4, all from 2008 through 2012. Also part of the offer are 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs and the Dodge Dakota pickup from 2009 through 2011. FCA has to pay the original sales price less "reasonable" depreciation, and the recalled vehicles can be sold by FCA after necessary repairs are completed. Apparently this is a huge slap in the face for dragging feet and making the recall/repair process all but impossible for owners through the past few years.

Gonna be a BUNCH of used Dodge trucks & SUV's on the dealer lots in the next six months or so....

Not saying the recall isn't needed. but I sure would like to see an accounting of where the money from the fine goes.

    .
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

I wondered exactly the same thing as I read the news piece, Mike.

You know, the Company that I work for built a new Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Dealership in out Town two Years ago (I thought they should have taken the Chevy Dealership at the time, as it was available, but we already have GMC/Buick and others)-anyway, it has absolutely exceeded any expectations by a long shot (as far as Sales/Profit)-

What has surprised me though is how much work the Service Department has, and, how long they have to wait for Parts-I saw a newer (1-2 Years old) Cummins 4wd Dually sit for over three Months waiting for a Rear Axle, and according to our Service Manager, this isn't an isolated occurrence-

We had a meeting yesterday and he said that his Shop is completely full (with Recalls!), with a long waiting list to go-again, the problem is getting the Parts to do the Recall-he does tell me that they will have at least three to four vehicles towed in every week (as compared to one or so of GM/others)-

I think Chrysler is making some really cool vehicles (I like the looks of the new Rams especially,)-I was in the market for a new Pickup last Year, but after knowing this I bought a new GMC-

One of the 'joys' of just-in-time inventory. It doesn't work well when your requirements analysis is off - or when you have a crisis.

I sure bet Ford is glad they're not in the spot light anymore with all the horror 6.0 issues they had for years, and years.
