Man the Friday is almost gone and I forgot to ask the big Q of the week... Whasup?
Going to play on the Bug that I'm caging for mr. customer. We decided to cut the roof off and go full off road with it. Suspension is done, transaxle is re located and mounted. So about the only thing left to do is cage it.
What are you guys doing this weekend?
More than likely I/We will be shopping and cleaning to get ready for Thanksgiving and, hopefully, after the rain blows thru, I can do an oil change and some serious trans pan measurements on the FARlane but that's not looking too likely at the moment.

I was going to work on the three projects that I've been hamering away at all summer.. but... it seems my uncle found a beam under the farm house that is giving up. I guess we can't really complain, it's been in there since 1790 sumpthin..
When folks say "they don't build'em like they used to." They have no real idea how bad things could be assembled "back then".
1790? I have no idea where you are going to find square nails to fix it. Might want to put it off for awhile. :LOL:
I generally have the Christmas lights up well before Thanksgiving, on one of the last warm days as the holidays approach but we were gone so that's not done yet. Got about 1/2 done with the house today before the rain hit, getting to a stopping point in the drizzle, so will be looking for opportunities to finish the house, and get the barn lights in place before Thursday. Our traditional lighting is dark thirty on Thanksgiving Day, into January a few days. Need to get back into the barn on the '32, but my incentive gets a bit weak when the ambient is below freezing....
Sadly, the mill that was still producing them (cut nails) was closed maybe 10 years back. They were still running the water powered machines and had a full line of cut nails and rosehead nails etc. , but it all became to expensive and no one wanted to help maintain the works and the dam needed to be removed and rebuilt...Quote:

Spent most of early Friday taking the wood structure out of the '32 sedan roof. A few months back a guy came up from Portland to buy some '33 parts from me and saw the sedan body on the cart with the sorry looking roof wood sagging and broken in places. He said something along the lines of "I make wood structure for old Fords, are you going to replace that?" Turns out he was looking for some original wood to use as patterns and made a good offer to exchange part of the fab for my old wood. I told him that when I got the body mounted I'd let him know and we'd do what we needed to do. Well, the body has been mounted for a couple months but the rest of life got in the way so it took til now for our schedules to line up. Since some of it was in such bad shape we spent a fair bit of time mocking the broken pieces to form the correct arch, and overall shape so we could get good measurements and pictures. Reassembly shouldn't be too tough now that I've gone through that whole process.
The rest of this weekend will be spent organizing the parts so we can know where we are to keep on keepin' on. Probably swap the engine that's in it now for one of the other flatheads on a stand as it's more complete and will give me a better weight load for suspension setup. Otherwise, nothing much going on car wise.
Big plans to clean and rearrange my garage and get ready to do winter projects----so far it's still in the just getting ready to go fast stage.......

Man o Man you guys have some hard lives... Cold weather, rebuilding 200+ year old houses, tractors and bailers in ditches, etc. sounds like a hand full? Im all bum'ed out because I cant get anyone to go camping this weekend as it might rain. I have desert fever really bad. :LOL:
I'll consider myself justified if I get a big antique mirror that Mrs. Rr has been jonesin' about for a long time hung. Since I have a really hard time climbing ladders anymore, it will take me longer than the agerage glacier to get the wall marked and the hangers in place, then to get the mirror - weighs about fifty pounds - onto the hangers. Oh fun, fun, and joy.

Work weekend, so Friday spent about 4 hours gardening/ Fall cleanup. Raking the old fashion way, with a rake not a leaf blower! Then light pruning back of trees and roses, followed by rebedding with winter flowers. Now the place looks nice for the relative's visit! Actually had quite a few older folks walk by and smile that we we working using hand tools and not weed wackers and air blowers, much quieter and better exercise! I think the younger kids walking buy were confused by the rakes as they probably have never seen one used! :)
Well, we got the mirror hung; the Boss got home, and while I lifted the mirror, she reached behind it with the yard stick and made sure the wires were on the hook, and I let it down. It looks decent, and she is happy, so I consider it a win.
And I got the house back up.. more or less... :rolleyes:;):LOL:
Then today my buddy Mark came over this morning and says, "hey. let's fix that roof leak on the shop while the weather is holding".. I hadn't planned on that but I had snuck in a quick ride in the coupe...
So, 2 unplanned jobs got done.. and the 3 I started back in June are still waiting! :mad::LOL::LOL:
Well... maybe next weekend?!?!? :HMMM::eek:;) Oh, isn't the procrastinators meet next Saturday? :LOL::LOL:
Abe Lincoln would be proud of ya Pilgrim - - - and yes, the meeting is scheduled for Saturday but will probably be moved up to who knows when?

Some of you guys are being quite productive, good on you.
I actually was able to make the good progress I had hoped as well. Got the wood out of the top of the '32 sedan, and off to the fabricator for replacement pieces. Got the mock up short block out and the complete engine in, so now we can fine tune the suspension with full weight on. And pulled together most of the parts I've got so I can figure out what I'm short of. Next week it goes off to my buddy Greg to get some sheet metal repair done. Gotta love progress....:cool:

Nothing near as cool as Bobs project but I got the roof lopped of the Off road VW.
got some of the ragged cuts cleaned up and the cage started so it was productive. I dont know why I get my self involved with barter work other than it just looks like it would be fun to do! :LOL: Stupid me! :LOL:

Oh and for those of you that just dont get what we are up to... These cars are built for blazing our SoCal deserts. This is the look we are kind of shooting for.
