Closest I've ever come to being in a combine was driving a 15 passenger van full of teenagers down a Southern Montana country hiway, coming around a sweeping turn to see the maw spinning blades, so wide there was no road on either side of the spinning blades, no spotter truck, driving right at us. We were heading right at it at 55 mph, locked up the brakes, because there was nowhere to go but off a steep ditch to either side, feeling the trailer behind us fish tail. Scared the $#@% out of me but we managed to avoid an accident. What kind of idiot would take one of those down a hiway without a safety crew ahead and behind it! We called it a come to Jesus moment!"
