Only 12 posts all day today??????????????
Maybe its time this place went to sleep-----------
I watched most of Sat and Sun on bang shift
I got mostly pics of the cars in the pits-----------lots of race cars and also hundreds of hot rods--think one featured group parked in the Grove was LA Roadsters----------never saw so many 32 high boys all in one place-many detail pics of front ends and engines, etc---
Sure wish I could post the size they come out of the camera-------------------
Wish I could have been there, some really good racing without all of the drama. I was surprised that Cruz didn't have the California car in the field.
You can by uploading them to
Photobucket
Bill
I'm out of space at photobucket---and if I remove/replace the ones I have there ,they disappear from sites like this-----------
I've been around hot rods, race cars--drag racers from old a, b,c,d stock classes in the 50s, SS in some later years, Modified Stock early 60s, top fuel, funny car, pro stock from late 60s ---- Stock block Indy cars in 80s, dirt cars, go Karts with my 2 sons 90s-2002-----My cars have won National awards in the International rod and custom shows, best appearing at numerous national races, been featured in all sorts of major publications ( including Esquire Magazine (a month before Burt Reynolds naked in Cosmo)) , many best engineered awards , Revell, 1320inc, Johnny Lightening did models of them-------
As I hope you and others can maybe tell by that, I am pretty deeply rooted with my love and interest for things that make noise and go fast and far--------I have always loved photography and have been around many top level photogs-----just had wonderful visit with Steve Reyes at CHRR---------todays digital cameras allow a level of photog that is mind bogling and I find myself taking thousands of pics along the roads/flight paths of the world/ and national parks, etc , that wasn't possible back in the days of film and prints ( even 35mm slides),
I have always found this site and the people on here as being genuinely deeply interested in the sport and seem to working hard and long to do hot rodding at the highest level they can------I want to be able to post some pics ( not all of them ) showing the detail of the details, and that means to me to be able to post them at the 14 mp of the camera I have-these aren't smart phone pics, (however many times the details will show several peeps with there phones walking in front of the camera)
As an example, from just the CHRR, I probably have 50 pics of just the front ends (suspension, lights, wheels, axle, etc) and engine accessory mounting from strictly 32 fords------------and hundreds of the rest of those cars and the historic drag racers plus several of the new $$$$$$$$$$$$ gassers( got a 57 chev for dave) and altered--------
I'm asking for support from you and others on here to encourage Brent to change the specs for posting photos so it can be done easier and simpler with the details that todays cameras allow. With that I'll go get my second cup of coffee
Jerry,
I understand where you are coming from, but I have yet to find any of the 16 forums I have access to daily (down from the 30+ I used to peruse daily) that allow such large photo attachments. The reasoning for this is mostly space, but server level bandwidth, and the fact that there are 1,000's of users who just use certain forums to host their photos for non forum related businesses or auction/sales sites. I will however send your post off to Brent for his consideration, as he is the only one to make such decisions. Perhaps he can explain if they can, or why they cannot be hosted in such a file size (not that other sites may or may not automatically resize such things, but I do not know how).
Bill S.
PS: There are many of us with multiple camp trunks (remember those) full of disorganized photographs, stretching back in to the 60's and earlier......Now if I could just find someone to scan them all in for me for free :D
Thanks for your continuing support Bill--------------most of the file sizes are 5-6 occasional 7+ mp and I think they would be wayyyyyyyyyyyless space than all those week end E bay thingies---------
even if its a temporary thing, I'd like for him to give it a try--------if it gets out of hand he can reset the limits----------
The ball is in his hands as I sent him a link to this thread and a request for comment/consideration.
But as an example:
One 7meg picture x1,000 views equals 7gigs, or an awful lot of bandwidth. Where as a 150K (Kilobyte) file takes up much less bandwidth, both to host, and to download and view. Especially on a smartphone or tablet.
Now to basic design and education of what each is.
1 Bit = Binary Digit
8 Bits = 1 Byte
1000 Bytes = 1 Kilobyte
1000 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte
1000 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte
1000 Gigabytes = 1 Terabyte

I'm more interested in 1000 pics times the 7 viewers still around
This is a Hot Rod forum, not a photography forum! IMO the pics on here are just fine and nothing needs to be changed.
I hate resizing pics but it is one of those things that goes along with that fandangled technology. I'm sure they'd upgrade to the right vbulletin program if you'd like to front them the sponsorship? One site I can think of that takes large files is cumminsforum. They must have a resizing input built into their site. It's the only one I frequent that will accept larger files.
With all that said, I'd like to see what you got out there Jerry. It's always nice to see the things going on in other areas and what and how rods are being built.
Yes Dave, it is a hot rod forum and I could type all day and night with 2 fingers and not begin to write a description of something out there one percent of what a good photo would show----a photo will show the same thing to everybody that sees it and all the words typed on the internet will paint a different picture to everybody that reads it---------------
And furthermore, I've some some pics that I went out of my way to take especially for you------------
Jerry, was this Hot Rod Reunion the one that has the Cacklefest afterwards?
meller
Meller--yes it was
CPTV BAKERSFIELD - THE 2014 CHRR CACKLEFEST IN VIDEO
Even have some shots of me in the Howard Cam twin engine car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes a picture is better than a thousand words if what's in the picture has worked for decades. I would like to see more pics. And I know every generation has their own idea of what a hot rod is, but it does get a little old looking at links of where to buy the same injection systems, crate engines etc. I'm not trying to offend anyone but to say it's not a photo forum but a hot rod forum don't make a lot of sense.
My point is that we don't need to eat up a lot of bandwidth for some supersized photo..... Everyone has been resizing pics since day one on here, the size and quality of the pics is just fine! When I said not a photography forum, I was saying the size and quality of pics on here is great, it's a bit unreasonable to expect Brent to spend a bunch of money and time changing things on the forum solely to accommodate posting bigger pics. Let's remember what happened last time big changes were made on here, and that was for changes that had to be made!!!!
For the life of me I can't see why anyone who knows anything about digital photography (other than how to point and click a camera in AUTO mode) would believe that posting a 6MB file is going to look any better than posting a 500KB file to anyone looking on a computer. The beauty of having a 6MB file is that you can crop your picture down to a full frame picture of the gnat on the window of the vehicle, and see the details of that gnat's backside. A Canon EOS 60D takes great pictures on the high resolution setting, but to really use that high resolution file one must open it in an EDIT mode and start playing with the image to get the final picture you want from the image file.
And by the way, anyone can resize 100, 500 or 1000 pictures at a time by simply using a "Select All" feature, clicking "Resize", selecting the desired size and you then have two files for every picture, one original size and one reduced for normal use. You lose nothing, but you gain flexibility of the smaller file sizes for pictures you want to upload, e-mail, post on FB, or even print in normal 4x6 or 3x5 size with zero lost sharpness. Not sure why we seem to keep bringing this subject up so often when the process is so drop dead simple.
Thanks for the vid, Jerry, it was extremely satisfying.
Well, I'm still working my way thru the pic downloads from my camera from not only this trip, but 2 other recent car shows that I attended------------and I feel that maybe I need to clarify my position on the photo posting issues on this site and possibly directly address comments by Dave and Roger, not as an attack against there comments, but as an opportunity to answer some obvious opinions about this site and posting issues with pics that quite possibly many of you would like to see-------
First, since it's the shortest -------Dave-----this is a site that many people are on that like hot rods and customs, race cars of all types, and discussions of wheeled street vehicles along with occasional posts about farm tractors, antiques, boats, planes, and other off road recreational vehicles-----------and the best writers around can't begin to describe some of what they see nearly as well as a decent photo---------I know that you have many more posts than anyone else, have road, dirt, and bracket raced many years------altho it is commonly talked about in some circles that you are possibly one of the strongest contenders for the distinction of driving away more members of a forum than anyone on the net!!!!!!!!!!!
Roger-------we have had many excellent exchanges about many different things, and I truly appreciate and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the assistance that you have given me with posting of pics----------however, at this time I would like to beg for your support to get the posting procedures changed instead of slam banging me about it----------
I don't want to select all for downsizing of my pics to create another whole set of files-I have a Personal PC and not a major facility such as these hosting sites and my storage is limited as well-----------
I don't just point and shoot on auto as you have referred in one of your posts--------I carefully (when I can ) position myself for the light available and wait for the crowd to space out for a shot---mainly about the only thing auto on the camera is the exposure setting for the lighting and quite often I will use a flash fill in to erase shadows for detail shots in confined areas. Anyway, my photography methods aren't the subject so I'll move on.
As a old time racer? that's been in a lot of places, the art/periodness of the hot rodding world is vastly different in different sections of the country(world) and there are thousands of different ways to build a hot rod-------I try to look for and record some of those and find that others do enjoy/appreciate my efforts.
It would probably be much appreciated by many others on here if you rendered a little support to convince Brent to change these restrictions which I believe would raise the site to a new, much higher level--after all, everybody is constantly ranting pics, pics, pics
Jerry,
I don,t agree with any part of your rant for changing the size of picture files posted. You are mis-informed and don't choose to learn the facts, which is sad. Managing file sizes is part of photography today. No, I will not join you in asking Brent to changes regarding picture file sizes. It works just fine.
Roger-here's some facts for you-------------I have over 3000 pics of shows this year that are hot rod related and I am not going to downsize them for posting on this site---------I would not be posting all of them even if I could , however there are hundreds that show some extremely high quality work in mod/repair/design work and artistic finishes.
If Brent can't/won't resolve the specs at this site, I will go elsewhere and you and Dave can chalk up another victory for you, down slide for the site----------
Jerry,
It's just not logical to support a request for Brent to allow huge photos on this site for the following reasons.
- You have limited storage - so does Brent.
- Monster photos eat up bandwidth and load slowly, even on my high speed connection.
- They are great for making prints, but provide little, if any, improved viewing on a computer screen.
Bottom line, most forums like this are a venue for what we used to call 'trading snapshots' as opposed to a photography arts exhibition.
No offense intended, but I find little value in downloading a 7mp photo for casual viewing.
Roger, what resizing site do you use? I use photobucket, and I can't imagine trying to resize 100 photos at one time. Hell, it's hard enough to resize 10 in 20min some days. Photobucket is a POS but I know how to use it and all my pics are there. I've tried some other places but they were worse. I'm open to ideas or different places to try as well. I agree I doubt Brent can justify the bandwidth for larger photos but I am not a forum operator either.
I'm not trying to run you off Jerry, just think it's a little much of you to expect Brent to use up a bunch of bandwidth because you want your pictures to be big!!!! Far as that goes, the best show pictures and large collections I've seen on here are the one's like Randy and a few others do that you click on the link, sit back with a cup of coffee, and enjoy the slide show! Lots better presentation of the photos then going through page after page on a thread.....
Mike,
I'm not at home now and my access is via an iPad which is not my norm. I believe that I generally work my files in Microsoft Photo, which has an "edit" tab when you open a file. If I have all of my pictures from a show in one folder I simple click "select all", then open the "edit" mode and click "resize". Each file gets duplicated in the selected smaller size. Easy as pie, and only a few keystrokes.
Jerry, the number of pictures you have is of zero significance. You are totally mis-informed about how to use your digital files, and you're sadly unwilling to learn. Your 6mb picture on a computer will not appear any different from a 800kb file. If you choose to leave over such a lame argument it will be sad.
Mr. Spears... I think you meant Ryan...
Double hit.....
