My .02 - do NOT put juice to it.
The peeling chrome tells of long term moisture, plus those capacitors have a near zero chance of working.
However, if you insist on making it live again, it sounds like a wonderful candidate for complete restoration..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
