DETROIT (AP) — George Talley has his car back — 33 years after someone stole it from a Detroit street.

General Motors Co. says the 71-year-old Talley was reunited Tuesday with his 1979 Chevrolet Corvette at the automaker's world headquarters in Detroit.

Talley last saw his car in 1981 after parking it. AAA called him June 13 this year to report his Corvette was sitting at a Hattiesburg, Mississippi, police station.

Talley says he was told the car "was running, had 47,000 miles on it and was ready" for pickup.

GM Product Development Executive Vice President Mark Reuss offered to ship the car back to Detroit. Reuss said "that car belonged home in Detroit, with its rightful owner."

GM says Talley has owned three other Corvettes, but the 1979 model is his favorite.

That's so odd. I'm surprised it just re-appeared. Good for the owner though!

I thought so too. Wierd looking car, but cool because it's unique! I wonder if the odometer had rolled around, or if when stolen the theif was afraid to drive it since it stood out like a sore thumb!

I'm not sure why they used a picture of that abortion, but Talleys' car was/is a conventional Corvette.

Thanks for posting the correct corvette Mike. The story is better now. Why would anyone add doors to a corvette?

Yeah, that's so weird they wouldn't use a real pic of the actual car. Oh, I guess that would be too much work to portray the entire story. Media, sheesh.

Well, if you want a stretched Corvette, here's one that always shows up at the Cruisin' for a Cure show in Orange Co, CA......

Oh my Lord, two good corvettes were ruined to build that. Haha It is pretty cool though.
