I never realized how bad trophy hunters can piss ya off until I started putting on the car show in my home town. I never realized how pissy people will get because they didn't win a trophy, and how big of fits they will throw. I had guys flat out tell me they wouldn't show up because they didn't stand a chance. I wanted so badly to say spend more money or make your ride unique. This particular guy had a stock restored 72 C10. It was nice, but there are a crap ton of them around and many nice examples. I'm no trophy hunter, if I get one sweet, if not, it isn't going to change my mind me or persuade me not to build something.

I make it a point to participate in charity shows only. The ones that benefit a cause like a local guy hard on his luck or families helping families I especially like, but a cancer benefit is just as good and so on. I go to enjoy the people I meet and donate to the cause. I seldom stay for the judging, so most of the time I do not have to deal with the show terds.

I had one of the terds bitching at me at a show about something, I can't remember what. But I do recall him getting madd when I told him I wasn't staying for the judging. He said "Why did you even come then, that's just a waste of money?" LOL! He got even more pissed at me laughing at him.

As of today, I have only one actual trophy and that was given to everyone for entering the show. But, I have tons of great friends and stories to tell from all the events and shows, and that to me is Priceless!

I like going to shows mostly to meet people and socialize. If a show gets too big and "serious" I stop going since I just don't like the drama. We have enough low key, friendly shows around here to keep me satisfied.

    I hear ya-all.
Over the last forty years or so we (both She Who Must Be Obeyed and myself,) have won various awards/trophies.
They're bought home and put on the very top of my bookshelf and never looked at again.
And yes; we've both had 'run-ins' with Glory-Seekers demanding to know why we won that award/trophy and they didn't.
"What if we demanded a recount; or mounted a protest?"
Please yourself . . . do whatever you want.
It got to the stage where I wouldn't enter for one particular trophy; if it means so much to you then you can have the damned thing . . . it's just not important to me . . . it's not the reason I (we) participate.

We're there for the fun of it . . . not the competition.

OK, I've solved the problem with the trophy hounds.

TrophyKits.com Trophies and Awards sorted by sport - CarShow race universal Trophy

They can stay home and make their own trophies!
