My daughter in Oakland CA is looking for a car and this made me think I should recommend a Jeep to her. She's very hands-on mechanical.
The Jeep XJ (Cherokee), made from '84 to 2001 (minor styling changes in '97) is an excellent choice for a daily driver. They're rugged, pretty simple to work on, and with the right tires (like BFG's) will go just about anywhere. If you can find one of the later models with relatively low miles it's a great find. The inline 6's run forever, and if they do go bad they're readily available in the aftermarket and easy to swap. One of the best Jeeps made for a regular road vehicle.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
