The downhill slide seems to have started about the time the page format changed.....lots of old timers didnt make the change. Cool builds like Ken Thurm"s cars are gone. Let's hope it doesn't bite the big one.
Well, about the only way to ensure the site stays alive is to POST and PARTICIPATE!!!!!! Too many threads just go ignored. Get a lot of looks but no comments or replies. The site will go South if all we have is readers and no posters! No reason to blame the format change, that was a long time ago and the old system could no longer be made to work so wishing that was back is like wishing it was 1966 again........... Lots of people come and go around here, maybe if there was a bit more of the friendly greeting type stuff and a bit less of sitting around waiting for someone else to post something CHR would grow again! If the site dies, nobody to blame but the members!!!!!!!!!
Dave, I agree, and I know you are great at making people feel welcome. I am going to try to partipate more.
WHAT, you tell me it isn't 1962 anymore Dave, now how is John Milner going to cope with that ? Heck, the music on the radio hasn't been the same since Buddy was killed and now you tell me that we are going past 1966, the world is coming to an end for sure...
Seriously though, I'm a member of TBucket site and we have slowed right down to almost a crawl and I find that very sad as we have a good thing going with some excellent people but that is what happens. I was " talking " to Don ( Itoldyouso ) recently on another site where he mentioned about a Mustang drag/street car his Son was building and that it wouldn't be accepted on that site so I suggested he come back here but sadly he must of decided no. I too miss Kens awesome building but atleast Steve has managed to keep us reasonably upto date with it at times. I noticed the Steve has been quite too with the Willys build but I remember he and Sue were coming back to the States for a holiday so that may explain that.
Oh well, looks like you fella's are stuck with me annoying you all.:D
What is the story with the line directly under the last sentence and how to you guys get that space ?
Dave is right if there is no participation there won't be anything here to read about. Got to try answering posts or at least say "Hi". I have had post on here ,one just the other day no replys but 39 views. I don't care but if you want this site to last you got to PLAY
YEP! Don't wanna see a blank page.. Build something and share it with the rest of us, don't have to be Rod related specifically, we enjoy all things mechanical, even models (plastic or metals).
And keep up with the great advice and helping others! That's always a recipe for success imho....
Sites are always cyclical, member and post rates rise and fall, I still prefer "OUR" quality advice and helping, to the quantity of BS many other sites offer. That's what has kept me here, members who offer genuine honest opinion(s) and facts all with the (usually) highest respect!
See I didn't know either. STILL don't I figured between 1k and 2k maybe way off???
i think we`re kind of moderately successful .. i`m on a few other sites and the worst is one where 90 % of the time i am the only member online and there may be 10 visitors .. and the most successful is where there is 250 members and 2000 visitors at any time .. we stay in the 12 member and 250 visitor range .. i myself just have had nuthin going on this year .. my stang is good to go .. my pinto`s are good to go .. i really want a ford truck project to do this winter .. i have my leftover 429 sitting in the floor .. one just cant find a good deal anymore on a project vehicle ..i blame barrett jackson and those half dozen overnite fixem up car shows on TV for that .. i gave 2 grand for my 80 pinto and very nearly traded it for a 300 $ truck just to have something to do ...
one thing is you can't "Like" your own post
Seen a few cheap 57-60 F100's on Craigslist, and e bay,lately,Hoss.. They seem to be popping up everywhere.. Why don't you track down a guy in Shelbyville,Kentucky..Jeff Kaiser..He's afflicted with the Blue oval sickness,too..Never know what he has around,,apart from his F250 super cab,for sale..;) He might know of something..
As one of the "old timers" who has not been around in a while. I understand what your are saying... There is so much good info on the internet these days it is hard to find time to come here to be social. Lots of great info here and really smart advice too... Unfortunately, messages boards have become out dated. Heck most of the younger crowd can't even compose a complete sentence without a bunch of crazy text abbreviations! Wow I starting to sound like a curmudgeon!

Well,
I am one of those "lurkers"-unfortunately I learned a while ago (on another Board) that my contributions weren't always accepted in a positive light, so I simply quit contributing-I come to Boards for comaraderie, fun and knowledge (which I do get here) and to help others where I can, not to argue (which I haven't seen here, but I do see it a lot in other places), however I find myself measuring my responses, so, after I proof read I usually delete-
I appreciate this Board (and see the close relationship between many of you which is really great)-hopefully this place will continue, however it appears our hobby is waning in popularity (which is very concerning)-
I hear ya! There is a boat load of material on the net and covers almost every problem we encounter when building a car. There are pros and there are hobbiest(me). Also the way it is writ-in and taken are at question.(i write like a 6 year old and others sound stuck up). There was a thread back around the election that got out of hand(myself included) and left a bad taste in some of us!(this is a car thread never never never talk religion or politics it will always turn ugly) I still enjoy reading the posts even thought I feel on the outside(story of my life,I'm just not a people person) My thoughts from my 6 year old brain, add a 0 to the 6! Pete
I used to come here quite often, then the today's posts got smaller and smaller. My wife and I are supposed to be retired but I said she wasn't getting enough money from leasing the farm. and her son and grandson were killed in the middle of a partnership building project . I wouldn't be typing today but am recuperating from a hospital stay. usually I just do a today's post then go to work. mabe when the farming is done and the building is done I will be back to my car projects.
i do that as well.
i guess my posts are boring because i will come here, say something.
and then never again is there a response and the thread dies in the water.
either that or i will try to come here and the site itself is all jacked up and times out or never loads or something.
so i get mad
close the page
and go somewhere else
and i definately cut down on my visits when i got told my car was A POS that shouldnt even be allowed to come off a trailer.
Thanks for the kind words and your observation. I won't hijack Richard's thread, but will give you a link to a photo album: THE H.A.M.B.
If you'd like any detail in reference to what you see, or would like to know more about just PM me.
I didn't say that is was a bad thing, Uncle Bob... LOL...
I am just a Junior Curmudgeon at this point, however I am getting closer to Geezerdom every day!

Who told you that,Billy?? Not on this board, was it?? I wouldn't have thought so,anyway..Hehe,,I sometimes add to the thread,,and then it dies...I think to myself...''Rats,,I've killed it'':(..This place is the only one I spend a lot of time in now,,but lately,I haven't been able to get here as often,,so I stay logged in during the day for ''fleeting visits''
Well this thread seems to have generated a bit o’ interest, eh Tech? Like many here, I do enjoy this board and it’s one of a very small number that I frequent as the time required to effectively correspond can be more than I am willing to invest unless there is something that I really like/know about or want to learn about.
I too was one that was put off last year and took a self-imposed “time out” from this forum but continued to chat via private email with several here until such time as I cooled down a bit and expressed apologies as I believed appropriate. I’m not wrong nearly as often in my sixties as I was in my twenties but am certainly far more willing to admit my mistakes now than I was then. This is “Club Hotrod” not “club politics or religion” and while I tend to be very passionate about what I believe, I have determined that aside from loving Dave’s precious grandkids from afar from time-to-time on this board all of my other comments will be as per the moderator’s instructions.
While I’ve only met a few here face-to-face, I feel that many are friends and I always zero in on their posts as they are typically the ones I enjoy reading. Anything from Tech, Pat, Bob Parmanter, Dave Serverson, Roger, or “my mates from down under” is informative as well as typically entertaining. Others here give all kinds of good “what-to-do” as well as some “what-not-to-do” advice on everything from paint to upholstery. I am continually amazed at the level of skill and craftsmanship demonstrated by those here as well as the ingenuity in fabrication – especially those can weld in a manner that looks like a piece of art.
I have the freedom to logon pretty much whenever I please, but sometimes it’s just to read what’s there and contribute when I can add value.
If nothing else, this thread has underscored once again that there are (still) a lot of interested participants here and we need to value their participation – I say come one, come all as there’s no one right way to build a hot rod and I appreciate everything from junkyard dogs to $100K builds. While not participating, I’m especially intrigued by the threads detailing the transplant of late model computer controlled engine/transmission combinations in older cars. I’d love to put a late model LS3 and six-speed automatic in a 65-67 SS Impala!
Regards All,
Glenn
^ true about religion and politics, although I haven't dabbled in those topics here and don't intend to. They always lead to arguments, misunderstandings and bad feelings so best to leave them at the door and take them up on other types of forums intended for such purposes.
I'm not building anything now so I can't contribute like that. So I just look around to see what I can learn, do some e-socializing, try to make an encouraging comment now and then. I'm more busy now than I've been lately and I'm driving my son from Philadelphia to East Lansing, MI, Michigan State U. tomorrow morning, back early next week. After he's away at school the rush here at home will slow down for me. As far as my car I'll be posting pics of the seats soon since my upholstery buddy called me a couple days ago and said he had an opening so I pulled out my bomber seats the other night and dropped them off so he can do his magic on them. Hopefully they'll look great and I'll post before and after about those and talk about how much I like them and how comfortable they are.
Re: the slowdown, some of our members went off and started their own forum last year and they are having this same conversation. Either guys have finished the build or don't have the funds to support furthering the build or are just busy doing other things. But on that forum they are complaining that it is now DEAD!
Another thought is IT'S SUMMER and some people go away
Summers always seem to "slow down"; folks got lots of other stuff to do.
Here's a tidbit that might add a little pizzazz from my direction in the near future. I don't want you guys to start burning rubber on my account (yet), but when I'm "really actually" ready toward the end of this year I hope to be looking to buy an old sprint car project and at that time will appreciate any advise or contacts you guys can point me toward. I think it will be a pre-WWII something or other which I would like to prepare for vintage and historic road racing. Of course I doubt I can afford any real Miller racecars or any serious Offy hardware, but I've been window shopping and have been seeing stuff that interests me. I guess if my year end bonus is larger I might be able to get something I can get on the track quicker with less long-term work; or if bonus is smaller then it'll be more of a project.
Being a northerner more so than a southerner (at least where I live), I kinda got a chuckle about the term "goin' South" meaning going to hell in a handbasket. Dem crazy rebels. << that's not political, is it?
