From what I've seen (and am seeing) most of the "Winter Brews" are lagers or blond ales, many with "Christmas" spices, especially nutmeg and cinnamon. There are a few seasonal porters, but not much in the way of good, medium dark ales with good balance and hearty flavors. Winter Day from New Belgium is OK, but they "hop it up" for some reason. I guess I need to visit the microbrew store and put together a good Octoberfest kit and make a batch or two of what I like instead of complaining about what's on the shelves....
