I felt the same way. Everytime I got into something that required welding, I called the mobile welder down the road. Got tired of supporting his family, so I went to the local community college at about age 40 and took up stick, MIG, cutting. Purchased a Lincoln 200 amp MIG and a cutting outfit and never looked back. Even at my advanced age today, I would love to learn TIG. I'm not sure that I have the eye/hand coordination to make pretty little rows of dimes, but I'd like to try. As far as welding goes, I don't think there is anything quite as pretty as TIG done right.
My late, great friend, Glen Neyenhuis used to talk with me about metal being alive. If you work with it long enough, you'll understand what he meant. There's nothing quite as sweet as massaging something of value from a rack of raw material.
Is there any site similar to this one? I like the HAMB, but I miss the good stuff that used to be on here…..
