Growing up in the northeast we had a track in Conn. and New Hampshire as the closest to me. And of course there were some attempts at the local industrial park and airport. The local constables would allow us to grudge race for a couple hours before running us off, they knew it would help us control the urge and help stop street racing (which it did for the most part!) but as the cars got faster and more powerful, they had to bring it to a close as there had been 2 crashes while they were on-site. The politicos had a fit!
