I believe they were called quarter eliptics? was a somewhat common type of suspension in some days with gassers--mostly where 55-57 cars were built to compete in the gas / altered classes--usually was a econoline front axle---this allowed the axle to be mounted forward with most of the mass/weight further back ---also worked good for rear end mounting and ladder bars----then along came coil overs------
