Like most "conspiracy" theories what seems logical is off track because of limited thinking. In most places in this country, "fuel tax" or "road tax" gets dumped into the general fund anyway, and there have been a number of studies showing that the amount collected is often higher than the amount spent on road repairs/improvement. Off topic for this would be the next step in discussing the use of taxes and the reality that we've reached the point where what we collect in ALL tax revenue no longer covers all the forms of "wellfare".........much less the costs of military, highways, and any other legitimate government function. We borrow all THAT money. BTW, the technology already exists to use the on board computers to track the number of miles a car accumulates. The State of Oregon has already run a pilot program to charge a "user fee" for high fuel economy or alternate fuel vehicles. Obviously this guy isn't aware of that so doesn't include that in his thinking.

No......this isn't a conspiracy to keep tax revenue higher, or to help oil company profits (with this government.....get real).............it's yet another example of bureaucratic short sightedness. More proof that a few "smart" people in Washington making decisions isn't really as smart as the free market where millions of people make the decisions for themselves. In a few years you guys will be in the same boat for your medical care for the same reasons.

It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
