I have been researching the old ghost towns out here lately.
Want to go exploring with the wife.
While looking at photo's was suprized at all the old cars still laying around some of these places. Here are some photo's from this guys site.
Nevada - Ghost Towns & Mining Camps
lots of neat places to go visit, for sure! Could make for a lot of fun exploring!
Beautiful country... and far removed from the stresses of the big city! I've been through a few of those. One of our daughters is the rugged outdoorsy type, and would have made a great pioneer woman. She sometimes stays out there in a house she owns.
Took the wife out yesterday to a spot just over the California line where Charles Manson hid out in caves.
They say he even torcherd people in them, The police have put steel doors on the cave entrance's now
to keep people out. It's only about 22 miles from my front door, that was one sick dude.
Anyway there is a little ghost town about 5 miles past that.
The wife enjoyed the little ride and checking out the ghost town.
There a little town called Shoshone just accrossed the state line in California.
If you were to go east from hwy 127 to Charles Brown hwy 178 about a mile
you would see the caves on the left side of the road in some little moutains.

Looks like you'll have good reason to get that old 4x4 Bronco going again, to hit some of the more "off the beaten path" places! Should be a ball!!

I have to be careful out here where I am at though too.
I am also just south of the Area 51, if you know what that is.
You don't want to cross any of those lines out here or you
might be in big trouble. But I love this area, lots of cool stuff.

I grew up in Vegas during the 60' and 70's.
Went to the mint 400 every year my little brother and I raced bikes back in the day.
All my old buddies had sand rails and trucks, baja bugs and motor cycles.
And thats not to mention my hot rod buddies that were drag racing.
I got 2 extra rooms bring it on, HE! HE! HE!
It's very cool out here, you ain't lived till you've gone accrossed the desrt
flats at 100 MPH in the middle of the night with all the KC lights on.

Cool video. the wife and I also enjoy exploring off the beaten path and went to Az a couple years ago. my step mother has a condo in Scottsdale, so we centered there and made several day or two trips in different directions. out East of Scottsdale, as the vid clip showed, you find Goldfield. that is a very fun place, but a ghost town it is not. it was totally made as a tourist stop, complete with a tour of the "mine shaft" which is also made for show. like I said however, it is a really cool place, and I would still go there again. plus there are other sites along the way there.
To the South of Scottsdale we ended up in Tombstone. also fun place but totally turned into a tourist trap now. the history is still there, but you have to look past the fake shootouts in the street every day etc. One of the best parts of going south for us was the Puma air museum. you don't want to miss that place as it's huge (use the shuttle tour to see more of it) and has some amazing mothballed planes that you won't see anywhere else up close and personal. also stop at (I'll think of the name later) the cave tour north of the Puma museum. recently located caves (80s?) that are huge and beautiful.
North is beautiful country, and of course ends at the Grand Canyon. that is one BIG hole in the ground.

I hear ya Russ.
Ya we have Calico Ghost town close by and Bonnie Springs and they too are like you say Tourist traps.
And they have shoot out's in the streets and train rides and such.
But I want to see place that maybe falling down and was built in early 1900's.
I wouldn't mind taking a metal detector and looking for stuff in the dirt.
I don't really care if it's worth anything I just like finding little trinkets.
You know something that say's it older then dirt, I just think that stuff is cool.

Us to. it's a trip to hold an item that was a prize possession to someone a hundred years ago. maybe a ring that some kid put on the neighbor girls finger knowing he was gona get lucky by doing it ;) or a rusty bumper bolt that was part of their first car………..Quote:
