I bought 15x10 Cragar's for mine, and I seriously wish I had gone with either 16's or 17's for the rear. 15" tires are becoming much harder to find - Coker bought the BFG molds for the 70 series wide ovals of the past, so they're available, but at a price Most of the OEM's are >17" these days, even on the light trucks where we seem to find some of the bigger meats for the rear. Brake calipers are also tight on 15's. You might want to go with Don's experience on this one, but like he says, if you're writin' the check...Roger

I guess for once I can be a smug a#$
Go up a couple of posts and you can see how the 31" tall tire on 17x8 rears fits the wheel well (and as a plus, it also clears the Wilwood parking brake - which the 15's didn't)Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

after using many 15s over the years, I won't again--brake clearance, total lack of hi per speed rated tires--there are lots of 17s that are available in speed rated tires that make big/little with 195/15 fronts look right

Dave,
You smug a#$!!
Yep, the only way I got the 31's is by buying BFG P285x70R15's from Coker, and he's quite proud of them since he's the only deal in town. What I found is that the "look" for bigs & littles needs 5"to7" drop, back to front. I did 31's & 24's, but I didn't need to deal with any stinkin' fenders But why worry?? Don will make it right for you if you just leave him alone and feed him progress paymentsRoger

Err, well, the comments regarding the wheel/tires size were made without any prior knowledge of the exact size Don installed on the Old Crow and so inadvertently I made an incorrect observation since they looked about the same to me. What I should have said is the width of the rear tires on the Double Trouble Beast was appealing to me, so if 17x15's are available I would prefer to have those installed. Don, when its time to pull the trigger, can that size be installed or would that detract from the overall traditional look? Cheers, John ,AKA, tin-man

[QUOTE=rspears;456613]John,
Regarding a deuce and "necessary" power, my '33 highboy coupe is pushing about 425Hp and 475ftlbs, and I can tell you it is a handful to drive at WOT.
Roger, please help me understand WOT, thanks, John, AKA, tin-man

wide open throttle

with something like 17x15 rear tires you would need a narrowed frame and a pro street type approach--not traditional and in my opinion not good looking--stay with something no more than 10 or 11 wide

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
