Hmmmmmm...........I bet a guy could build a pretty good little business selling small business folk something similar to that Dave.........well, for the next 90 some days anyway.

Maybe THAT business WOULD have to give credit to Mr. Obama for it's existance.

No wonder this country is going to hell in a hand basket, people can't show any respect for the President of the United States let alone their fellow man!!!!

A message like that for the President--whoever he is and whatever his party affiliation--goes just too far beyond a disagreement on political philosophy and goes right to vulgar!!!! I was always told that only people of low intelligence have to resort to language like that to get their point across....

    Guys,

While as a business owner I take offense to a president who states "he did it for me" (as if he worked the 80+ hour work weeks I did in the past and at times still do for little to no money), I believe the above post is going a little far to prove a point. Let's remember that this is an open forum, and as such children on occasion do wander in.

    Enough said.

    Mike P,

What a mind, Friedman thanks for the links. I am going to seek more of his insight. Sure has a great way of telling lefty they are full of crap. I loved the deer in the headlights stare when the moron was confronted with facts. When that typical lefty mind was tested for a thought, the little boy dismisses the facts presented to him. Lefty is good for a laughs, but very dangerous.

I read "The 1 Percent’s Problem" and came away with a renewed dislike of Joseph Stiglitz as I think he cries a lot about the problems in our country but rarely (if ever?) brings a solution to the table.

I did like one of the comments listed after his article:

"The real lie in this is the implication that a higher tax will actually result in enough revenue to fix our financial crisis. You can confiscate all the net worth of the top 1% and it would not quite pay for 1 year of our deficit, and after that having taken all their assets (net worth not income), would leave us with nothing to tax in the next year. It's time for the 53% to rise up and demand that the other 47% start paying their fair share."

    I concur,

Worst part is, the whole "you didn't build it" thing is nothing more then another of Romney's ads.... a small part of an Obama speech taken out of context and twisted around to look as idiotic as possible!!! Come on, don't believe everything Fox news sez without checking out it's authenticity. Both campaigns are all about ads that throw dirt on the other guy and do nothing about addressing the real issues.

I'm not for Obama in this election either, but I'm also not going to be fooled by a bunch of lies, half truth's, innuendo's, and statements taken out of context. It's only August and I'm already fed up with all the negative ads, remember when candidates used to run ads about what their platforms were, and how they were going to work to solve problems???? Maybe the whole country has gone that way, "If you can't say something negative, don't say anything at all".

That "out of context....." dodge may be what National Propaganda Radio feeds, along with the rest of the lap dogs, but it's bull hockey. Not everyone who is offended by that remark is a mindless twit. The WHOLE statement that contains that phrase was a mockery of personal motivation......a paean to government elitest control. I've listened to every word and intonation. And that quote is in context. Not only to that statement, but to the generally anti-business meme that this President has repeated since he was a candidate the first time around, and probably earlier (something in one of his memoirs about "....behind enemy lines...." when he briefly worked in the private sector comes to mind). That businessman's sign that tweaked your ire was/is an expression of disdain that isn't election year driven, or racially motivated either (you know that lame one is always present), it's a reaction (recall your science....."every action has an equal and opposite reaction..."). It's a matter of self motivated folks being tired of being cast as "the problem". Being scolded for "not paying their fair share". Being blamed for "....destroying the environment." And so on. President Obama is the target of that long festering ire because he's put himself up as "the savior" of sorts. But he's just the tip of the iceberg of oppression foisted on those who desire to return to the kind of freedom that built this to the most successful society in the history of man.

Having read the speech the statement came out of I have to agree with Bob that the statement WAS in context. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I tend to read the news stories on both a convertive leaning and liberal leaning sites to try and actually find the middle ground where "truth" hopefully lies.

    I'll just say again,

If you can't say something negative, don't say nothing at all....

My reaction to that sign is nothing more then total disdain for it's message and the man who put it up there. Respect for the Office of the Presidency, if you don't respect the man, that's fine, but respect for the office SHOULD be there, as this man was chosen to that office by a majority of the voters.....

Really is there anything that can't be blamed on Obama with the right twist or omission of words, the right out of context statement??? Please Bob, I've watched and listened to the speech that the "you didn't build it" that the bull pucky ad came out of. I'm neither a lap dog nor a lackey, nor do I need FOX news, Rush Limbaugh, or the likes telling me what to believe and who did what by putting their spin on whatever is said.... My opinion is that we will not survive another 4 years of the extreme left battling the extreme right and the resultant power struggle within Congress, I'd say it's time to put Conservatives from BOTH parties in office, and send these extremists home to be "experts" interviewed by FOX and CNN based on their side of extremism. Nor will we survive another 4 years of doom and gloom bs concerning big business being so terribly put upon by the government, seeing as how big business pretty much owns the government anyway!!!!

Self motivated folks have become the silent majority, the "average Joe" has been totally left out of the program. If you consider yourself rich, then you're supposed to be on this side, if you're poor, then you're supposed to be on the other side, then these extremes battle each other on every single point, at times on every single word, and absolutely nothing gets done about Joe Average and his battle to keep his family fed, his payments made, put his kids through college, have a decent retirement to look forward to, etc. Joe Average doesn't have a prayer if we have nothing but 4 more years of the same crap to look forward to!!!!!!

One more thing on respect, remember when an election was held and we respected the majority rule and tried to make the best of things, even though our side lost??? Remember phrases like "I respectfully disagree", then the speaker would state his case based on fact and not trying to stir the emotions of the audience, and trying to create as much hate and discontent as possible because his side lost? Remember when candidates countered the other sides negatives with positives concerning their side of a discussion and not just slinging more mud on the other side???

Isn't there anything positive that will come out of this election, or just more negative?????

Maybe it's time to say, "I respectfully disagree" on this point and move on?? Seems like we're just rehashing the same points over and over. Just a thought......

Oh, and Dave, the old saying that my Mom drilled into my head was, "If you can't say anything NICE, then don't say anything at all." But then, it seems that more people learned it your way than mine.....

I agree we hash out the same points again and again. I also agree that the system is broken, and probably will be for the rest of our lives unfortunately. I hold hope, but do find myself leaning toward the negative. Funny thing is this topic keeps us all chatting, in between builds and car projects, which for me is directly related to inflation and the economy, that the hotrod has the least of my financial priorities, compared to paying bills and fixing our broken stuff. I will take everyones points to heart and vote for whatever effective change there may be a remote possibility of.

Well, Congress adjourned today for a 30 day vacation..... Probably shouldn't expect them to be doing a lot about anything when they get back in session as it will be too close to election day and they'll all be watching the polls and bad mouthing the other side of the aisle.... It is a good chance for all of us to question our Representatives and Senators about what they intend to do about all the problems facing our country. Usually while they are home they schedule lots of public forums, round table discussions, etc that affords us the opportunity to be a part of the system rather then just a victim of it.....

It's going to be quite a contest here in Missouri over Sen. McCaskill's seat. I would describe her as a moderate Democrat, sometimes she sides with the administration and sometimes she doesn't, and the mud slinging is really getting heavy. I'm so sick of that garbage I could scream so I probably won't decide until much later as again it appears it's going to be the lesser of two evils.
I've followed politics to some degree since I saw part of the 52 Democratic and Republican conventions on TV and over the years things have definitely gotten worse. I would much rather hear what the person stands for and what he/she would attempt to do or try to change if elected instead of their opponents transgressions.
