Good to know Glenn. I've gotten it twice in the last year via email. It does get people thinking about some of the hippocracies we live with.

If it were not for the rich, I dare say most of us would have a job. Do not fall into this fake trap that is driven by jealousy. Nothing wrong with the rich other then you and I are not, I can accept that. I find it very illuminating that these politicians run around pounding on the rich, but seem to be ok with the PARASITEs that live off of others. Thinking about it that makes perfect sense birds of a feather.

The problem with this country is not the rich we need more of them. Who else has the dough to buy the over priced goods and services, that your company may be providing.

The problem is spending money we do not have, and not holding folks accountable.

Paddy was standing as a candidate for Mayor of his village.

"It's the rich that are the problem, they suck us poor working people dry. Elect me Mayor and I'll force a more equitable distribution of wealth by taxing the rich more and more until they're brought to our level."
A heckler in the crowd shouted: "If you had two houses Paddy; would you give me one?"
"For sure I would," said Paddy.
"And if you had two horses would you give me one?"
"For sure I would," was the response.
"And if you had two pigs would you give me one?"

"P##s off; ya know I have two pigs!"

Taxing the rich is not the answer, I don't know what it's like in your country; but in our country the vast majority of the truly wealthy people I know have made their wealth for and by themselves.
They made it because they worked both harder and smarter than their contempories.
They've earned it...mainly through sustained application over a long period of time, attention to detail, and lateral thinking.

And yes; they've created jobs along the way.

Heck when people don't want to take a close look home, it's always easier to blame someone else for their problems. We were raised on the simple principle of live within your means, work hard and save for an emergency and tomorrow.
People want the latest gadgets, tv, computer, IPhone, etc... I know people at work who complain constantly that we need to tax the rich and make things equal so they have a chance at the good life. If you took their mercedes away, their 300 per month cell phone, cable tv, spending sprees at the mall, their twice a day habit of 5 dollar coffees, their six times a week order out dinners and lunches, and their much needed vacations to Hawaii, they might even have the money to pay on the house they let get forclosed because it cost too much!

The last couple days much has been made of El Presidentes remarks last Friday about how business builders didn't really build their business, others did it for them. How it's roads and bridges and the government that made it happen. The backlash has been swift and vocal, but his defenders are in full defense mode whining about how he's been quoted "out of context", or mis quoted...............when those excuses are seen to be feeble we'll surely see the old fallback used...............criticism is based in racism. Blah, blah, blah.

It was noted that he's been working off teleprompter more recently............that probably has more to do with this sort of disclosure of his heartfelt beliefs. No carefully crafted obfuscations that sound harmless, but mask a hatred of the free market principles that helped craft this once, most successful nation.

My bride came up with a quick assessment when she first heard the quote; "This from the guy who gave himself all the credit for taking out Bin Laden?" What Obama speech wouldn't be complete without a hundred or so "I"s and "me"s?

My perspective is somewhat different. I have these fantasy visions of being in the audience with all the Obamabots who cheer him without any thoughtful consideration of what they are told. I'd love to stand up and ask: "Mr. President, if it's the roads, bridges, and government, along with any other inanimate objects you might care to name, that create jobs...........................................how come they haven't worked their magic for you in the past 3 1/2 years?"

You can break out those that cheer his philosophy into essentially two kinds of goups. People who are completely clueless about economics and its resultant job creation, and those that have been able to buy influence or position in order to isolate themselves from the harmfull effects of bad economic policy (call it crony capitalism, or buying protection, your choice).

The whole notion of "creating jobs" is a rhetorical lie. Nobody................well, nobody in the real world...............creates "a job". People end up with "a job" when they create or do something that someone else values enough to exchange whatever they have or do that is of value. Free market economics occurs when one person exchanges value with another. If one person is especially good at creating value for his fellow man, he is rewared well. Some are better at that than others. Some have a vision that allows them to be pioneers in value creation and reap large rewards. The have an idea and ACT on it. And that's the point lost on the Obamabots (the Pres I'm sure knows this stuff, but that doesn't support his power seeking goals). That action of the visionary can be called hard work, inventiveness, creativity, any number of things, maybe even luck (though one of my sig lines demonstrates my qualification of that).......................but certainly success doesn't come about as a result of sitting around waiting for someone else to produce. Life is like a wheelbarrow.................it don't move if ya don't push it!

And this is where the Obamabots lose it. "Tax the rich.......that will solve everything." Like most of their schemes, they haven't thought it through. Unless there's some other motivation, the "rich" don't have to do the activity that the greedy want to tax. They will just change their behavior. And if your only game plan is to take away the earnings of someone else to get by, what happens when they don't produce anything you can take? I hear crickets..............

That's essentially why we are suffering a stagnant economy right now. The producers are uncertain about how much of the value they produce for others will they be able to realize sufficient value in return for. So they do the minimum to get by, or they hold some value in reserve for safety sake (e.g. those millions that evil corporations are supposedly just sitting on), but they don't try to leverage their value to it's maximun effect.

Sadly, if polls are to be believed, the ignorant might..............only might, time will tell........outnumber the thoughtful.

Nobody, at least of the business people I know, are ready to "create" a job. Anyway, "creating a job" sounds like something you would have to do for a worthless son-in-law or something!!!! Unless we were to go back to the Roosevelt era and WPA, no president can create a job in the marketplace!!!! Increased sales and services are what creates new jobs, having enough confidence in the market to manufacture goods or offer services is what creates jobs!!! Until confidence in the market returns (ie, increased sales of goods and services), there will be no new jobs created!!! Unemployment isn't the problem, but the overall condition of the general economy is the problem!!!! No company that operates at a profit is going to create a job unless their sales warrant it!!!

Granted, our infrastructure needs a lot of work, no denying that!!! Just let the contracts to private business and you will see jobs created on a wholesale basis!!!! Or, perhaps some would prefer that the government does all the hiring and firing for highway construction, bridge building, upgrading power distribution grids, etc????? Now wouldn't that be a debacle of bureaucracy????

Mr. Obama’s comments last week concerning business once again underscored that he is out of touch with what constitutes a small business in America. I have often commented that he has no business experience and has never balanced a budget, made a payroll or agonized over laying off a long-term employee due to lack of work or shifting economic conditions. (I once made a comment that he’s never even run a shoeshine stand and was promptly called a “racist” – really?) He has no concept of what I go through each and every day to keep a small business viable and strive to provide a decent living for a dozen folks. He has never worked a sixty or seventy hour week, maxed his business credit line and cashed in his savings to make sure employees are paid and the lease is current. He is the most arrogant and self-serving individual that has (in my life time) occupied the Whitehouse and I for one find his use of “I” verses “we” to be repulsive and condescending and he has the gall to state the following (Huff Post, July 12):

"The mistake of my first term —a couple of years — was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important, but the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times. It's funny, when I ran, people said, 'Well, he can give a great speech, but can he actually manage the job?' And then in my first two years, I think the notion was, "Well, you know, he's been juggling and managing a lot of stuff, but where's the story that tells us where he's going?' And I think that was a legitimate criticism."

To which Mr. Romney responds, “President Obama believes that millions of Americans have lost their homes, their jobs and their livelihood because he failed to tell a good story. Being president is not about telling stories. Being president is about leading, and President Obama has failed to lead. No wonder Americans are losing faith in his presidency.”

Unfortunately, there are (as stated above so well by Bob Parmenter) a lot of ignorant people who may once again outnumber the thoughtful in November – I certainly hope not. This man is an embarrassment to our great nation. The only people he “leads” are those who want to suck at the government’s teats - those who have adopted an entitlement mentality that truly believe they should be able to have what I have worked for and I should be willing to share of my wealth with those who (for whatever reason) do not have “enough”. The 47% of our population who pay no taxes at all seem to have nice clothes, nice cars, cell phones, Internet connectivity, cable TV, and eat out at fast-food joints at least three times a week (read a lot of fat Americans!).

I’m rich (not because I’m an “evil” small business owner that makes more than $250K a year) but because I have a wife of nearly forty years whom I love and adore, four great children and five grand kids! My home’s paid for and for the most part all the body parts still work fairly well. I have lots of fun tools and have had some great cars, trucks and motorcycles over the years (not done yet!) I can go home at night and sit on my patio and thank God I live in a free (at least for now!) country and know that He is still in control – Lord grant me wisdom and for sure – patience. It’s hard to see my America slide into oblivion.

    Thanks for lettin’ me vent!

Wow I guess three of us all chimed in at once. I disagree that we need to create more jobs. I think people need to be willing to work at whatever to provide for themselves. It's not the governments job to create jobs and provide for the people. If we started a communistic country or a socialistic country, then yes it would be. But our founding fathers believed in a Democracy, and the freedom to pursue a better life. Not the freedom to be provided a better life, by sitting on our butts and taxing those willing to work! My family all immegrated legally here, with nothing. They fled oppression in Russia, and worked hard until they could afford to buy land. Then they worked harder to make that land provide for them. They didn't come here expecting handout, and free health care.
The right to bear arms was written into the constitution to ensure no one would ever oppress us again. Why do you think the politicians want to get rid of that right?

You kill me with the equal taxation theory. That will never happen as long as we have an income tax, not to mention the current tax code is so convoluted that no one knows it.

The ONLY way to get a fair, EQUAL tax is to specifically, absolutely abolish income tax, and go to a flat sales tax. Add in some exemptions for corporate raw materials to prevent double taxation, some reimbursement forms for the Indians ( constitutionally exempt, remember ) and you will have a tax code which would fit in a pocket notebook. Not to mention cutting out two-thirds of the IRS. Maybe even throw in a one time fine of say, ten grand for any delinquent taxes. ( I have a few relatives whom would jump on a deal like that ).

A flat sales tax. Simple, fair, easy to implement and collect.

Wow, this girl has a great plan! And I love the last thing she would do the best. This was written by a 21 yr old female who really gets it. It's her future she's worried about, and this is how she feels about the social welfare, big government state that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense, in her opinion. This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX , Nov 18, 2011 with the heading:

    PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
    Roger

Now that we are back on subject and some really good as well as eloquent posts - even Alan(evolvo), who I absolutely do not agree with, but it is his right as an American and as a member here to state his beliefs.

I also don't agree with the flat tax proposal. A flat tax system penalizes the low-income segment of the population. Low-income individuals and families must spend money on the same necessities required by higher-income people. However, after the necessities are purchased, the poorer taxpayers, because they earn less, will have less money left over to pay taxes, at the same rate as those earning higher income amounts. There are a couple of pros - the complete on line Internal Revenue Code is more than 24 megabytes in length , and contains more than 3.4 million words; printed 60 lines to the page, it would fill more than 7500 letter-size pages - would then disappear along with thousands of IRS agents (who would then swell the unemployed rolls).

Now, speaking of unemployed - that phony 8.2%(12.6MM) - it's really 23+ million and based on a working age population makes it a lot closer to 17%. Dam!!
One of the first things my statistics prof told the class is that statistics can be made to say what ever you want them to, and in other words, lie.

    Better said by these guys:

"Do not put your faith in what statistics say until you have carefully considered what they do not say. ~William W. Watt"

    or

"Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital. ~Aaron Levenstein"

Geez Alan, do the Marshals know you're in contact with us?

You provide a target rich environment (us crazy gun nuts talk like that ya know) so I won't take all the "best shots" I could, but let's deal with your tax example since it's so representative of the dishonesty (though I believe it's not intentional on your part, you're just regurgitating the leftist mantras) of the argument presented by the left. While your math sounds logical it's inaccurate because you're starting from a faulty premise. First of all, that 35% (or 39 or any other value you choose) is the marginal rate, which means, for those readers unfamiliar with the terminology, that only the last dollars earned are taxed at that rate. Each income tax bracket has a progressive element within it. So, in reality, a typical earner of $100k is paying MUCH less than 35% on the whole of his/her earning amount. There's no straight line calculation to throw out here because of the number of variables based on write offs, deductions, carve outs, and so on in those enormous number of pages Dave W. mentioned. But based on actual IRS figures an earner of $100k is paying a net percentage somewhere around 15%, give or take a few percent. The wealthier person who may be earning through capital gains (no ordinary income) pays 15% on the first as well as last dollar. So in reality they are paying at approximately the same rate. That reality negates your example, and the blather that is normally shoveled in the MSM, since it's incorrect. BUT...................it works because it capitalizes on the envy inherent in many humans. Still dishonest though.

I've said it many times before, and I recognize it seems not to penetrate well because it doesn't play to the Leftist Meme in this country, but I'll say it again for the benefit of my brethern. You can make all the claims you want about what is a fair amount to tax SOMEONE ELSE, but that someone else has rights too. And they will ultimately have a say in what they believe is fair for themselves. There are examples throughout history of where excess taxation rates cause resistence. That's part of what motivated the formation of this country. It's what almost killed the small boat production industry in the early '90s. It's what has caused loss of tax revenue to our, and other governments around the world whenever it's been tried. Google what's happened to British tax revenue in the past couple years since they raised rates on the top tier. In a couple years you'll be able to see the same effect in France based on recent changes. The one glimmer of truth/reality in your formulation is that the wealthier individual will still have more worth/money/assets at the end of the math exercise. That gives them more options...........................the most important of which is their willingness to continue, or discontinue, their higher level of value production for their fellow man. Despite all the obfuscation of the folks on your side of the discussion, those that have more income EARN it (for the most part............I'm excluding folks like George Kaiser and his ilk who get generous handouts from the Pres in return for campaign contributions), and if they feel that they are being abused by a greedy government, they can choose to stop that productivity...............or move it somewhere else. (I'll spare you the embarassment of posting the long list of Lefty supporters who've left our country during this administration)
