It really sounds like you guys are headed down the same rutted track that our little country was headed..We were really quite lucky that we had a change of government, cos another term of Red Helen and her bunch of tree hugging queer(take that any way you wish)mates, were dead set on turning NZ into a little Red community.. Biggest problem now,is turning everything around, which means real hard work,,and cap it off with the expense of the Christchurch eathquake rebuild etc,and trying to convince the lazy beggars who Helen told''you dont have to work'',that they DO have to work, cos taxpayers dont want to feed drones..Our current government is into its second term,,but we need a bit more time to make the country stronger.. I am still amazed that no one has ''Abraham Lincolned'' Obama yet.. All I can see,is that the current generation (and a lot of the older ones too)just want to sit around and hold out their hands for a freebie.. I keep remembering a certain famous quote..''Ask not what your country can do for you,but what you can do for your country''....Doesnt seem to apply any more, does it??

Robin, that famous quote was in response to that rutted track! This isn't anything new, it's just the evolution is getting us closer to the edge of the cliff. I believe Roosevelt set us on the track....

one of the thing i love about texas . we tend to tell the fed to
stuff it. it's time washington stayed the hell out of texas since they do nothing for us anyway. stuff all the fed test up their butt and let the teachers teach children to learn. i still think perry was the only one pit bull enough to go deal with washington. if your gonna send someone up there make sure he's a snake eater.

Since Tejas is a republic, I'm waiting for them to secede. When that happens, maybe we'll move there (move in with one of our kids ... one has been begging us to, the other, well that's another story)

Not sure if Perry was the right person, but it is true that we do need someone with the cojones that will fix at least the past three years of 'misadventures'

if not for the property tax i would be ok with texas but i hate the fact that after i retire i will continue to pay these taxes. i will say one thing though, i have survived all the downturns by staying here. we seem to be able to keep going when the rest of the country is at a standstill. which creates problems because everybody that looses their job moves here

Yeah, I remember the property taxes being a bite, but you still have no tax on income, right? That's quite an advantage, as I recall.
