Just think about all that is going on behind the wheel these days,
    1 cell phone
    2 texting
    3 gps
    4 reading a news paper
5 stuffing face with food and drink
    6 make up
    7 video/ movie
    8 laptops
    9 now Ipads
10 there is more I am sure

I just wonder what is next, these folks who want to do all this crap need to be on a frigging bus. Most do not have the common sense to drive in the first place.

Who's to blame that is an easy one the moron using the device behind the wheel.

Here in N.Z. it's illegal to use a cellphone while driving - period.
But it's perfectly legal for truckies to use their cb or r/t ?!?!
    What the..???

Just recently a woman pedestrian was killed when she crossed the road while wearing earphones and listening to an MP3 player type thing.
She obviousy didn't hear the car that killed her.
    Should they be banned too?

The question is if I want to be the sacrificial lam getting guys hating me with my next comment. But from the time of my heart attack post with a certain regret to now topics like that is wanting me to see us get back to the core subjects of the hot rods.I am sorry if by my entry of the heart attack contributed to derailing that main path of threads about hot rods and the threads that have followed.Three pages of cell phone use should cover that..................now moving forward on with the business of radius rods, straight axles, engines and trannies.Gary

Don it was made illegal to even have a phone in your hand here in England 3 years ago, you get a hefty fine and 3 points on your licence, 12 points and you are banned.
It always amazes me when i visit the states just how many people drive while on the mobile phone.

I was in line at the grocery store a couple of nights ago and there was a lady in front of me who couldn't even hang up from her phone call long enough to check out her groceries. She had a phone stuck to her ear and was taking her sweet old time taking one item at a time out of her cart and putting it on the counter. The cashier had to wait each time because the lady was so slow. I almost was at the point of telling her to hang the d*** thing up, but didn't want to come across as a jerk.

I think the cell phone and smart phones are a great invention, but they sure have created a bunch of problems by people who are so important and have such important things to discuss that they have to be glued to one 24-7. I hope they pass a federal law banning them from use in a car and ENFORCE it with stiff fines.

My favorite example of cell phone misuse? Jane and I were driving on I35 north of Fort Worth when she said some words I didn't know she knew. She pointed out the window at a woman driving beside us a large SUV. She had a cigarette between her first two fingers and was holding the wheel with her thumb and the other two. In her right hand she had one of those "Big Gulp" soft drink cups.

I don't remember what I said then but I evidently didn't show enough concern because she said LOOK AT HER! and pointed out that the woman's mouth was moving. She was apparently talking on some kind of hands free telephone.

Then there was a guy in a BMW that I saw on a number of early mornings headed toward Dallas with a newspaper draped over the steering wheel.

In the past I have posted a column by a guy Named Ed Wallace who writes car stuff for the Fort Worth newspaper. He has a way of coming at topics from a different direction.

Here, I hope, is Ed's offering for today.

Maybe a lot of us just grew up in a time when driving was still something we took seriously and we were proud of our ability to drive and didn't do dumb things when it could endanger others? I guess now it must be something you have to do, and it seems most people have their concentration on everything but the road... Another thing, I think our time behind the wheel of high performance cars has taught us just how quickly things happen and can go wrong while driving and we all learned to pay attention to our driving? Or, most likely, we're just the last generation who actually take responsibility for our actions and don't do stupid things like talking on cell phones, driving drunk, reading the newspaper while driving, etc. because we know what the results can be???

The other day we had 2 kids killed by there running into the rear of a school bus. The brother and sister had just left school... The car was WAY under the bus. The police haven't released why or what caused it but phone use is suspected.
