I used to work with a guy from Canada who had a pair of those, wore them for just plain rubber boots; that was in the Mojave Desert, in wintertime of course; it does rain and snow here sometimes. I never wore rubber boots, just greased my work boots with waterproof grease; kept me just as dry, and never seemed to hurt the leather. My wife told everyone that her husbsnd wore Li'l Abner boots; my lineman's boots had a nice round and spacious toe box, sort of like those "Mickey Mouse" boots.
