V8 Super car kingpin Tony Cochrane has signed off on a deal that will see the V8 Supercar category race in Austin, Texas from 2013. V8SC has signed a five-year deal with the state, and the race will be broadcast live on the motorsport cable channel Speed across the US.

The circuit in question is the yet-to-be-built Circuit of the Americas in Austin, the capital of Texas. It’ll host a round of the F1 championship next year.

Is this a good thing? The series now has FIA standing, and can run as many as six races of its 18-race calendar off shore. Thanks to its expansion into areas like the Middle East, it’s quite easy now to move the series from country to country, and the US will be a very receptive market (though it’s never going to do the same kind of numbers as the behemoth NASCAR).
