Does anyone know if a tunnel ram was used in the late 60's trans am series?69 trans am.jpg

Don't think so - I had a friend with a 1969 AMX that had a dealer installed Edelbrock Crossram STR-11 intake manifold as option (rumored to have been the same setup as on the SS AMX) with a pair of 660CFM Holley #4224 carbs. Looked similar to the Z-28 cross ram and that car would definitely fly!

That looks to be a custom piece set up for monster Dominators - maybe a on a 390 AMC? It could have been run by a "factory team" as there were a lot of skunk works type engineering going on in the late 60's. I know Ford experimented with some exotic manifolds but somewhere along the line SCCA outlawed them.

Interesting piece and appears to be well made. It would be fun to see and hear in action but your brother-in-law would have to be an oil sheik to be able to afford the gas that bad boy would drink!

but your picture is from the Ebay ad....it had some links to chase this question.
1968-69 AMC 390 Trans AM Tunnel Ram Intake manifold - eBay (item 230615550542 end time May-06-11 18:43:36 PDT)

When AMC bought the Mark Donahue team (just like toyota bought teams to get into nascar), the pictures of the engines had a big air box on them...certainly large enought for a tunnel ram. Also, the individual runners meant that the thing was pretty much a high rpm deal with not much low end.....there are plenty of responses if you Google "trans am" AMC "tunnel ram"

I am sure you have done the usual Google routine.....unfortunately, Mr. Donahue is no longer with us. There should be a way to find either a TransAm AMC person or a factory AMC engine engineer....maybe the Trans AM engine builders. TRACO built the Chev engines in Mark Donahue's cars...who built the AMC engines? Wally Booth had an AMC pro Stocker as I remember....maybe there is a connection there with someone who can direct you to a person who was there and touched the stuff in the day. The low deck AMC stuff has got to be ultra rare....in the old days, we only looked for block castings with 401 on their sides to put in jeeps.

Something in my weak and bad memory recalls that during the Trans Am time, one of the NASCAR teams ran a Matador---for some reason I seem to remember the shop doing the NASCAR stuff did the Trans Am engines, too?????
