this and veterans day are the only two holidays i observe.
    wrong or right.
people died so i could have the opportunity to believe what i want (no matter how hairbrained)
and to ensure the right to pursue happiness.
    to our fallen soldiers
    i salute you.

I've posted this before, but I think it's worth watching again.

I didn't go to the military, due to health problems in the mid-sixties... but today realize how many of my ancestors served. I see the PTSD affect on many of my friends and family, who were never the same afterwards. Others I know have lived with injuries for life... and I lost a nephew in Iraq. I will always support our military, who brought us all of the amazing benefits we enjoy.

I have always felt that I let others down. Partly because of that, I hold a deep reverence for those who served in my place. A heartfelt thanks! ...and my eternal gratitude.

IMHO, you played the cards you were dealt and that's life. Unless you spit on the returning troops or fled to Canada you didn't let anybody down. You are a patriot and that is what counts.

What I don't understand here is what threat was Viet Nam to the US in the 60's and what is the relation to that war with freedom in North America? Hope someone can explain that to me.

It's my understanding that the politicians in that era were concerned with communist expansion in Southeast Asia and were of the opinion that it was better to stop it there, Vietnam, before it consumed the whole area and possibly spread to Australia and the surrounding area. Remember that the build up in Southeast Asia, most notably Vietnam, occurred shortly after the Cuban missile crisis and the fear of communist aggression was at it's zenith. Right or wrong, I would much rather fight on someone else soil as my own.
