    shipping an engine from Philadelphia to sydney, Australia, any recomendations

     



    have a mate that needs to have a blown 392 hemi shipped from Philadelphia to Sydney Australia.
    any leads on good shipping companies welcomed.

    If you can have it shipped by air it would be a big plus. If not then you're going to need to have it prepared for ocean shipment, which I assume would be a very thorough shrink wrap of multiple layers covering all openings, then heavy crating. I would want it placed in a shipping container, which means finding a shipping consigner that takes less than container loads and consolidates them for protected shipping, receives them on the other end, and then contacts you to pick up your goods. You don't want your engine shipped as an individual component, even if it is designated for below deck shipping (protected from the weather, rough seas, etc) because hold covers have been known to be removed on the open seas during shipping, and things get exposed if they happen to hit a storm at the wrong time (once had a huge electrical/electronic control panel shipped, stressing below deck, protected, and when they swung it over the gunwale of the ship sea water poured out of the wireways at the bottom). I'd start by talking to someone like UPS Ocean Ocean Freight - UPS Supply Chain Solutions, or one of the shipping consignment companies like Lily http://www.shiplilly.com/.     I absolutely agree with Roger. Fly it. If you can't get a specialized/sealed container and a direct ship, the engine will be on that ship and on the high seas for up to 60 days and more. Container ships are too big to transit the Panama Canal so they have to either go around either Cape or through the Med then the Suez, with stops enroute. In my work career, I lost cargo in the Atlantic (containers washed overboard) Caribbean (a large transformer went through the bottom of the ship) as well as heavy rust (trans Pacific). With air shipping, 3-7 days including customs clearance. As far as size - well, the Antonov124 is available for a mere pittance of about a half mil. I do have to say - I thoroughly dislike UPS overseas shipping, but that is history from several years back, so there may have been positive changes.

    We have shipped to New Zealand and Australia with a company named Titan International--they are in Carson Calif --web site www.titanship.com--they specialize in cars and parts, know and use the best codes for rates,etc---
    shipping from west coast is best routing to down under so you will need to probably truck ship it from Pa to Ca--if you need , I can get you a broker contact for best rates---
