    Lost

    Is it just me????

I can't seem to find my way around this "redesigned" site as easily as I did before.

As a result I find I'm coming here less often.

No. I feel exactly the same way. I even find myself posting on forums I never posted on before, just to fill the void.

Don and I talked about it last night at the shop. With all the ads that are appearing on pictures and between posts, it is like one big ad anymore.

I also feel "Lost" on this new redesigned site. On the "old" site, when I went there, the first page I would see was of all the newest postings since my previous visit. I am not sure but I think clicking on the "What's New ?" tab brings me to the same place. The "Todays Post" tab seems to leave out postings from when I last visited. An "old dog" can learn new tricks, it just seems to take a little longer.

    Don,
Like Steve Stovens pointed out yesterday, the problem with ads is not the forum, but Google and Inernet Explorer. At Steve's suggestion I downloaded the program, Super Ad Blocker Super Ad Blocker - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com and it solved the problem immediately not only here, but on other websites as well. Try it, you'll like it!!

What is it you can't find, Geezer? It's all still here just rearranged a bit. Could be the other site was easier cuz we used it for so many years??? A bit more time with the new site and it'll be just as "comfortable" for the users as the old one was. I'm certainly no computer whiz, figure if I can find and do the things I want on the site most anyone can---if they want to!!

Thanks for reposting the link Rog! I downloaded it during a COMMERCIAL on tv, it works great! Seems we're inundated with ads in all the media, this one at least takes care of the 'puter---got one for the tube and the radio??????

    Guys,

Yes, there has been change, but if you redo your original bookmark for the main page:

Club Hot Rod Forums - The Front Page

You will see that the majority of it is just like it was with the most current posts/pictures/videos also now listed.

As for the ads, I've got an email in to Brent with your complaints noted about the ads being attached to the pictures (now showing on clubcobra, clubhotrod, and clubchopper.com). However, I believe he is doing it to cover the added costs he is incurring.....

As for the changes, again, the software is being phased out (running on 7 cylinders with no 8th piston available ever again) and is no longer being patched or supported, hence the forced upgrade to the new software. Going back to the old is not an option......Brent is continuing to make tweaks as he can to help satisfy you, the members, but there are limits to what can be done. Please keep that in mind as you continue to enjoy this free web forum.

    Sincerely,

    Bill S.

That was the only logical motive we could come up with when we talked about it last night. While I understand the need to cover some costs or perhaps make a buck or two, it sure turned it into one big billboard.

There are also additional steps required when posting pictures. This forum always had the most easy system to do that of any I am on. Now, it is not as easy.

    Don,
With due respect and not being critical, I just don't see the problems that you're seeing. On the ads, you have the option of downloading a very simple ad blocker program and they're gone - not only here, but on other places you browse, too - bonus! (Thank you Steve!!) You may choose not to do that, and put up with the ads. Several people have pointed out that if you hit the "X" to close them they do not come back on that post.

On pictures, sure it's a little different - after hitting Post Reply we now have to hit "Go Advanced" if we want to add anything but words in the Quick Response box (smiley's, pictures, etc) which is one added keystroke for every post with "extras". Once there it is "Manage Attachments" (same as before) and then reading the fine print we hit "Add Files" if it's a picture not previously uploaded (second new keystroke), and now you have a choice - hit "Select Files" to get to your file folders, or hit "Basic File Uploader" if you want it to look, act and feel exactly like it was before (third new keystroke, whichever you choose). Once you have selected your files (same as you always have) it's just a matter of hitting "Upload" (always had to do that), BUT WAIT!! There's a really neat new feature that we never had before - the "Add Inline" option at the lower rightt that lets you insert pictures anywhere in your post that they fit!! No longer are all pictures in a jumble at the end of the post, now they can be placed where they make sense in the text string! HooRay!! So yes, there are a few new keystrokes, but they all are pretty simple, follow the directions features that should not cause much heartache. For me the added features make the pain of seeing a couple of new buttons worth the effort. Again, not being critical in any way. For me I've about forgotten what has changed from the old system. Bottom line, it's not changing back, so we learn to like it or choose not to.

    Don,

The only way Brent makes money is when we have a fundraiser, when is the last time we did that on any of his forums? As for picture posting, yes, there are two added steps required where there used to be one, again, it's bundled into the new software. Getting used to the change will take time, and yes, you will have new tools to deal with. However, keep in mind that the site is still here where others have failed or been over run with trolls looking to pick a fight, and it still costs nothing to join and participate (unless your want to hawk a business). Heck, even most of the banner ads you see are crossovers from one of Brents other sites (most of them).......Again, I'm sorry, I do realize that changes like this are hard to deal with, but believe if you can build a hotrod, fabricate parts when nothing is commercially available, that you have the brain power to learn the ins and outs of the new software here at CHR.

    Have a great afternoon.

    Bill S.

    Thumbs up

I'm not seeing the pop up ads, Norton must be doing what I paid it to do.

As stated earlier if I ( 73 Gezzer) can do so can you. Change is good.

Damn, this is just like putting the dimmer switch on the column instead of on the floor where it belongs!! I am having trouble reaching the dimmer lever with my foot now.

It took me awhile to figure it out, but after awhile it's right there about the same as it was before just a little different.

    Geezer,
Like Dave asked a couple of days ago, what is it you're having trouble finding? Maybe someone can give you a quick tip on finding it, or how to get your main display looking like the old days.

    Dave,
I just noticed your comment on the ads. Can't help you with the TV (wish that I could ) but for the radio I think it's called Sirius, but they want a monthly fee for their "service"

Maybe I've just had a bad couple of weeks, I'm starting to get used to navigating around the "new, improved" format and like everything else, I'll get used to it.

Guess it has more to do with being a grumpy old fart than anything else.
