Yeah, crazy. My '83 horse runs elevens with nothing but bolt ons... I'm forever building cars for lighter, putting one of them boat anchors in the front of such a good handling car would go against most everything I know....

I've still got the f body project on the back burner, Scooter...but I can tell you there's little room for engine set back unless you're ready to cut up the firewall. The newer one's aren't quite as nose heavy as my '82 is, but they still have a lot of push in the front end when you lean on them.....

    Scooter

are you talking f body as in Camaro/Firebird or F body as in Mustang FOX body?

The swap to do these days is the LS aluminum series engines--Corey does the tuning on the NICKEY Camaros and has got 718 to rear wheels and its drivable--gets good gas milllllage too

With the engine on these having such a far setback, it would really be tough. But anything's possible. As I found out with my AM General step van, just because you physically CAN make something work, it doesnt make the finished product a good idea.

Not saying it can't be done, but it doesn't seem to be real popular due to space limitations. These are a pretty long engine.

You also don't want to believe all the hype about the the 472/500 being only 50 Lbs heavier than a 1st gen SBC.....it's actually a bit over 100 LBS (Stock to Stock).

As a pretty much stock motor I really like the 500 in my EL Camino. The down side is if you really want to play with it and get the HP and Torque numbers up it starts getting real expensive and kind of defeats the purpose of using the 500 as a low buck (relatively speaking) big inch engine.

i am in the process of installing a 472 in a car that it is suppose to fit ( 71 monte). been trying for several months now and finally had to send it to a man with a plasma cutter to get it to sit right in the engine bay. If i could do it all over again i do not know if i would. my opinion is not to try it. you are going to run into a ton of troubles. from oil pan problems to clearance issues.

ive seen a few of them on the internet with bbc's in them they all said its actually not that bad if you stick with an lt1 car, they have normal sbc mounts so they fit. yes jerry, f-body camaro this one is a 97. i am not worried about having to notch the cowl, i also still have the 301 out of the nova. i was just thinking it would be frickin awesome to do something off the wall, if it ownt fit it wont fit, ill do something else to it. i already was going to delete a/c p/s abs all that crap outta there along with all the smog stuff obviously. and just make it fun car to have fun with. a new era project x if you will

100lbs heavier cant be that bad seeing as the cad is lighter then a bbc.

At least the subframe comes down and out so you can mount up the engine with nothing in the way, do any oil pan mods, etc before you stick the whole works back up from the bottom--

nope wast of time and money to do right will take $$ resell may not be very good you can get alot out of a ls engine and they fit .a bbc is a bear but can be done but a caddy would be a big pain in the ass . a ls out of the bone yard would be the best bang for the buck and can be made to run very well with not much done . i do not know how cheap you can get the caddy BUT a 454 stock with a rebuild and add 250. for a crank gets a 496 can be done on the low buck did many. the caddy to rebuild will not be cheaper then a BBC and you can buy bolt on headers and a oil pan that will work used parts all..over Ebay and race junk for the bbc not so much for the caddidy

yep the ls can be put in with out any SPECIAL parts and if you want something like a ss exhaust--they are everywhere---just go to auto zone and tell the kid you want a muffler for a 97 camaro with a 500 cu in Cad and he will ask you how many liters that is----

kids these days have no concept of math----they don't know that 8 liters is twice as big as 4---just another number to them and means nothing about quantity or physical size--

got a new tech school grad working for corey and in balancing engines(which he has done several with a computer type balancer) he has no concept that if you double the size of the drill that you will take out 4 times as much weight and the changing radius with hole depth?????got to be kidding---he also is so used to using a calculater for adding numbers that I haven't been able to get him to write down the weights of the parts in nice straight columns so I can add them up
