You see, that's the problem. There are fellows out there who are controlling the price of oil through futures speculation. Individual countries do not control the price of oil that they sell on the free market. Oil futures speculators set the price of a barrel of oil through futures speculation. I want to say this several different times so that it is perfectly clear. SPECULATORS ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU HAVING TO PAY SUCH PRICES FOR GASOLINE. They own nothing. They never take delivery of the futures contracts that they speculate on.
Matter of fact, there was some banter in Congress a while back about requiring speculators to take delivery of the oil in the futures contracts. Oil took a nosedive. These a**holes have no intention of taking delivery of the oil they speculate on and some of them must have gotten to some of our congressmen with a handful of dough, because that's the last I ever heard of the idea of taking delivery.
You want to do something for yourself and everyone else? Email your Congressman and both your Senators. Tell them to force oil speculators to take delivery. Email 'em several times a day, every day. Send 'em letters. I've already nailed my Republican Congressman (newly elected) to the cross for allowing funds to be cut to homeless veterans. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. I told him if he wants to cut spending, to put a hiring freeze on all federal government positions. Let natural attrition thin the herd.
I don't know if my emails to my elected officials make any difference or not, but I know one thing, if I and others don't do it, they will continue to do as they damned well please. If we have to throw the whole bunch of 'em out in 2012, then LET IT HAPPEN.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Guess I don't really see a reason for it. Greed?? Heck, who knows. I suppose it'll eventually be enough reason for another war front in the mid east. I just don't understand any of it anymore. Maybe this latest gas deal is just one more brick in the load that the working man has to carry.....Don't know how many more bricks we can handle?
In Washington it's name calling and finger pointing, just business as usual. I see lots more of the blame game coming, but no solutions. Suppose these career politicians that have everything so screwed up in this country will ever be held accountable for their actions?Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Well, here I go being simplistic again... Maybe we should put US companies to work hiring US employess and go out in the Gulf and get that US Oil and just let the Mid East continue on fighting over religion as they have since time began??? I know, I know, that would never work!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Its time to pick out a supplier and everybody stop buying from them. when they lower there prices the other companies will too---
I suggest we make it Shell.Exxon/Mobil as they are the only American company left---they get all our $ not only at the pump but the government $ for exploration, etc.
Boycotting a foreign company such as BP or Citco is just looked at as a little objection whereas if we do the American company boycott they will notice in Washington right away---and when they lower there price, so will the others----tea party anyone?( and I don't mean the political party)

Gees, I remember a bunch of us scrapping together 50 cents and driving around town for hours, but then you could buy a bottle of pop and a bag of chips for 10 cents also, haha

Yuppers, maybe supply and demand would still work???? My "shop" (ok, a garage) is 20 paces out the back door of the house, grocery store is across the street.
As Uncle Bob mentioned, the real guilty parties in the oil fiasco and so many other things are very, very good at blaming someone else and getting the media to buy into the feeding frenzy!!!!!! As long as we continue to buy into the "blame game" the guilty parties go unpunished. Just like a magician, the bad guys want to keep you focused on the distraction so they can get away with their tricks!!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I hate the traffic on the way to work.
Sometimes the cat just sits there and I have to walk around him.

Tech, I totally agree with you about walking and not using my truck or my wifes car. Unfortuntely I live 12 miles from the nearest Gas station and 13 miles from the nearest grocery store so that scenario doesn't work for me and others who have the same problem. I have a gas hog of a 2006 Dodge Dakota that gets 14 miles in the city and I'm on a fixed income with taxes and bills up my butt to pay or I would trade this truck for another, but I'm not going to buy a 4 banger because I use my truck sometimes to haul 2 or 3 times a week.. I have no one to blame but myself for buying this vehicle but never expected gas prices to rise again.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

I know what you mean Chevy. I just bought a 2011 P.U. that gets anywhere from 14-16 around here, maybe 19+or- if the planets are aligned just right when I'm out on a longer run. I too haul a trailer frequently so I need the towing power. Sometimes pulling the trailer with the old truck it was like the tail wagging the dog, and that truck didn't do any better mileage wise. I average about 20-25 gallons a week doing shop stuff. If prices get too far out of wack it might pay to buy a super duper mileage vehicle to drive for those trips where I don't need the towing power. But then I'd be maintaining an extra vehicle so I'd have to *put a pencil to that deal first.

I bought this a few years ago and haven't ridden it but a few times. I contemplated on selling it but, glad I didn't as it WILL be my summer transportation! "Oh" it's a 2008 "MADASS" (yep that's what they are called...) that gets 100+ mpg! I recently added a big bore kit and header which really woke it up!
