Thank you for the kind words,Barb,and everyone here...This has rocked the country,again,the poor old South Island has had its share this year,with the earthquake,and now this disaster..
Two prominent west coast hotrodders who work in the mines were not there..one was on holiday with his wife I believe,the other was elsewhere too..but we all feel for the poor people who have lost family and friends..And on the west coast of the South Island,that pretty much meanbs that EVERYONE in that long stretch of coastline,knows someone who has been/is working in the mines..This is the biggest disaster in 43 years in the mining industry on the west coast I think..:(

Yeh Robin that really sucks,read the Herald yesterday when they announced the second blast.Hard to imagine what it will do to a small town.Very sad news!

It's hard to imagine the devastating effect this
will have on many thousands on people.
And, of course, it was not just Kiwis in there.
3 other countries also had workers killed.
It's a pity there are a few deadbeats with no brains who are
allowed to post on the net as this link shows.
Pity also is the numbers who jump in and back his pathetic attacks.

this is truly heartfelt, there are no political or geographical boundries just a
sadness like a cold winter wind.

Well there has just been a 3rd large explosion in the mine.
No details as yet but it sure has justified the Police/advisors/rescuers
decisions NOT to enter the mine.
The death toll could easily have doubled by now if they went ahead on
public pressure.
yeah i was shattered when i heard. one young bloke was his first day underground apparently.
The first thing you learn with oh&s emergency response is to only advance when it is safe to do so. No doubt it will be a rather large investigation when it finally comes time to do so.

Damn, the South Island is Jinx I think.
Seems with the fires raging in the mine now, it will be practically impossible to recover any of the 29 workers. A huge blow to family and friends. But they are still hanging onto a glimmer of hope, as we all are. Our prayers are with them.
