I couldn't have said it any better myself.
Other then changing brakes, air filter & the oil which is still a PITA I won't work on them. Someone asked me once why I buy & drive old stuff, my reply was "Because I can still work on them". Hell w/the new stuff you need 1000's of dollars worth of special tools to do most of the stuff.
I have said for a long time we have CRACK HEADS designing these new cars. Who else would build a car/truck that it takes 4-8hrs to change just the plugs???....joeDonate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

They put so much crap in the engine bays now it's almost impossible to work on them. Give me the 50 and 60's car anytime where you could have two guys working on the same engine with room to spare.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

I have to change spark plugs on the DW's V6 Ford Escape. After you pull the plastic engine cover, the upper half of the intake manifold and a bunch of claptrap, there they are - and that's a $40 DIY job . To do something as simple as replace the PCV - you also have to pull the same parts as the plugs. Then there's my V10 DD pick up - three plugs on each side are under the cowl and they of course are COP which means new boots, an approximate $150 DIY job and several hundred more for a dealer to do the job. Then there are brakes - and I don't care what brand car, you should probably change rotors especially if they are the OEM as there is probably a better then great chance they are worn too far.
I really miss cars like my '68 390 Torino - and I used to b!@#h about the 2 LR plugs where I had to snake a long extension with a flex through the two hood hinge straps to get #7 and 8.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

The room and accessibility in my '55's engine bay is a do-it-yourself wrench spinner's dream - - - - ahhhh, but unfortunately, it ain't my DD

Hate all the computer panels that cost 1000 dollars each to replace. The highlander has 5!

Also hate the electronics for the heater control. As it gets older it's about 800.00 to replace. Never had a heater control go out on an old car. When the electric one starts to fail, the car gets full heat on all the time!

Makes for real uncomfortable driving!"
