I hate snakes, and I would REALLLY hate to run across that one. I agree with the pants filling comments.

I would first hope that I was at least ten to fifteen feet away when that guy announced his presence, and second that he would stay where he was or near by until I could get back with a 12ga shotgun!! I've learned to tolerate black snakes, garter snakes and similar benign varieties, but any pit vipers tend to die of lead poisoning on my property....

I have heard that when they get this size they don't fear man. They will come to you. That has got to be at least 6 to 7 feet long.

I had a buddy at Camp Pendleton that hunted rattlers, but I've never seen one that big.

I would hope I saw it before I came ACROSS it, and I'd sure hie myself in a direction away from it; that thing is just too big to mess with without some tactical planning. Otherwise, I'd prolly just sieze up and vapor lock on the spot, considering my age and all; I used to go hunting the things when i was a pup, and have gotten a few as long as five feet or so, but they don't get as big as that thing here in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

I'm guessing that thing is at least 8 feet long! My hunting buddies call me the snake magnet, because rattlers seem to gravitate towards me. I hate snakes! Last one I stumbled on took 4 shots of snake loads from the .40 cal glock and still kept coming!

they are common around here. they don't get that big any more because of the hogs. there is also a change going on. they do not alert as much because to the hogs it's a dinner bell. so we have to really watch for them just like the copperheads.

I've had 2 memborable rattler experiences(lots more but not memborable)

One, I was squirrel hunting and had climbed over a fence--was jumping down from the top and looked down where I was landing-----there was one all curled up and objecting to me but my altitude won out over his upwards strike , and I landed on him and the next landing was about 30 feet away---

The other one was while in the Army, doing some unnamed stuff that didn't happen, and one close to the size of this one objected to me and this old ranger that I was with---the farm boy (me) with my forked snake stick, and the rangers machie?(corn knife to us farm boys) chopped off his head about 2 feet back---and we ate him--think about 50-60 guys had some tastes a lot like chicken(but a little drier) he had 18 rattles and a button where some had worn off---
