    Those old westerns

Anybody like those old western movies and TV shows? I sure did, my dad and I saw them all at the theater. On Saturday morning we would sit on the couch and watch the TV series. Makes me miss my dad

love the old westerns. actually have john waynes autograph. my grandmother sewed costumes for colonial williamsburg. the duke was there with perry como for a christmas special. he gave her his autograph for making his costume. she said that he was extremely polite and even helped her down the steps when she left the building after his fitting. alot of these shows are being shown on netflix if you have it. my favorite shows were bonanza, big valley, and high chapparel. thanks for the memories ken.

You betcha, Ken, as a matter of fact we are very lucky to have Dish Network and we get a lot of them on TCM, AMC and TVLand. The other day TCM did a Tim Holt Movie Marathon all morning. We get lots of old classics with Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Glen Ford, Henry Fonda and of course "The Duke" and we watch them all over and over, especially John wayne's. Having been a Cowboy in my younger days, I can't get enuff.

We are planning to move later on and when we do, I'm gonna subscribe to the Western Channel. Now that's where the old classic "shoot-em ups" are.

Speaking of TV westerns, Gunsmoke was a Saturday night ritual for many years. I still think that show, if coloured and syndicated could be shown today. A real classic.

Resto, I am pleased to say the TVLand has Gunsmoke reruns and Bonanza reruns every weekday at around 11am until 2pm and "YES" we watch them all.

I still have my Hopalong Cassidy dish from when I was about 6. Saturday mornings were the best. Mom would make me my breakfast and I would wrap a blanket around me , sit over the floor register to keep warm, and watch all the cartoons and cowboy movies. The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Hopalong, and The Cisco Kid.

And of course I had to have my two six guns strapped on me "just in case!"

Unfortunately, we don't get TVLand here in Canada. Hopefully, one of the many satelite channels will pick it up soon.

This should bring back some fond memories for us graybeards. Gary Cooper, the Duke, William Holden, etc.

Love the old westerns. My grandmother used to take me on Saturdays for the matinee (I believe it was 11 cents for under 8 years old and 15 for over and a quarter for adults). The kids and the dedicated parent or relative would line up in droves at the little theater in Buchanan, Michigan.

If you would like a real piece of nostalgia, John Wayne's house is for sale again in Newport Beach.

They also just auctioned off most of the memorabilia at Roy Rogers Museum and the said that every item brought top dollar.

Don, I must be a FAN because I recognized all of those clips on the YouTube links.

Ken's post has had me thinking and googling old cowboys and cowgirl stars and I ran across this pretty cool link.

My wife asks me "How can you watch those same cowboy movies over and over?" Love John Wayne movies and Gary Cooper and Richard Widmark and Jimmy Stewart and.........
I thought I knew a lot, until I had teenagers!
