That's some pretty cool stuff, trip of a lifetime.

When we were at Bonneville last year a pair of Kiwi couples parked next to us in a rented motor home. They were on a couple week adventure. Had already hit some of the hot rod high spots in SoCal.

A couple years ago I got a Model A pinched '32 frame from Duane Jones shortly after he took over Kiwi Konnection from Bell. He's a character. There seem to be quite a few folks who've emmegrated over for the hot rod scene.

It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

A great read, and something I should like to keep up with. I have had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with a few of our cousins from the southern hemisphere, and have thoroughly enjoyed their company. Some of them exhibit a sense of astonishment at the things we take for granted that I have seldom seen, and it makes me realize just how diverse our country is. I truly like those folks.

Great post - to the point that I bookmarked it to read some more and might even register.

I guess the Kiwi's found the Midwest "interesting" as far as weather and square miles of corn

Dave,Im following it with interest too,in fact ANYTHING like roadtrips in the US,that type of program, has always got my attention..

Bob,Duane Jones is a bit of a character..also a pretty switched on sort too. Also, never ever seen someone who can swallow bourbon like him..He used to make his own when he lived in Wellington, and after a few hard lessons,no one wanted to drink too much of his fire water..
As far as the rest of us down here,to me,anyone in the hotrodding family who doesnt want to go up to the mother land of hotrodding, even just for a holiday,is not really a hotrodder in my book...To those who have made it up there,my best goes out to them, good dudes, living the life they wanted..

Day 9 is on now...plus a few extra bits from them too...
As an extra to what I posted in my last post, about road trips,,there was an interesting hour long program on our digital SKY TV channel last night about a couple of English guys who bought a 1970 Ford sw and drove up to Washington state, and back down to Arizona, and right across to the east coast, driving through cities/towns called Independence, and bought everything they needed for that trip at privately owned, non chain type businesses,,including hotels/motels..Quite a trip, would like to see it again.Or even better,do it ourselves[one day]

Thanks for posting such a great web. I've been keeping up with it and enjoyed every minute of it. It would be interesting to see it in the US!

...or maybe one of Yanks in NZ!
...at least I'm enjoying the ride!

A-h-h-h-h-h more converts to Calif. What they haven't found out is that taxation is a killer, housing priced out of sight, corrupt government, Nancy Pelosi/Barbara Boxer, mega liberal and the streets are not paved in gold. Of course I could be talking about my home state of New York as well (except for being mega lib)

As much as I've traveled, not sure that I ever met a Kiwi. Aussies, yes, I even had a couple working for me in Saudi and the North Sea. There was always a group at Vail and Steamboat skiing. That account almost seems to say that Kiwi's are everywhere

Eric, thanks for the comment,I have enjoyed it too,in fact I dont think there are many days left, there will probably be another update today,so keep in tune..Yes,one on Americans in NZ would be kool too,as we dont really know how many of your countrymen are down here.I am hoping this series will be available on DVD to the local market this year, though probably next year if it does happen..so I will keep an eye out in case, maybe ask a few questions and see what happens..
Dave W..I think California is the ideal entry point for wayward Kiwis,as we all know someone from our hotrodding community there,so its probably easier to start there, and the weather is better than back in NZ..Personally,I am now a small town Kiwi, and could quite easily fit into a small town/county,city without any probs..As far as not meeting any of us,we slip under the radar,,such an unassuming bunch.....Huh..what was that noise, sounded like a trumpet being blown....
As i have said in other posts,if any of you guys[and gals] are coming down this way, give us a yodel..You know the rest..We will have ya going home with a TARANAKI HARD CORE tat on ya back, and a chilly bin full of Tui beer.. Corrupt government??I think a lot of countries suffer with that complaint,,thankfully, you guys have our previous Prime Minister causing trouble up there now,,SHE wanted to be Chinas new premier,I am sure of that,,showed her true colors on a daily basis...RED jackets, and always cosied up to the Chinese government,,just a tad too close for me...

Well, I just read the last installment, and the Kiwi's have flown home - good trick that, eh? It would be a nice treat if they could work out a deal with Speed Channel, or some other to air that series here in the US; even getting it out on DVD would be ok, I'd likely buy it, and share it around. I'm glad they had a good trip.

Rrumbler,[and everyone else],I am glad you enjoyed it,,,it would be good if its followed up with another series. There are a lot of Kiwis up there, and there are a couple of guys who I know up in Chicago,or were,,,who used to work for Rod Millen.Murray Thomas moved up there and started his own business up there,Thomas Auto Development[I think]..Havent heard from him in years,so I suppose hes still there..As far as DVDs go,its worth a question or two, depending on how well it sells down here..Would definitely get it myself for the collection..Did you,or anyone else see the Kiwis at the Chili Bowl earlier in the year??
