When you know you actually "Haven't" heard everything - THREAD

I just made a beer run to Brookshire Bros in Buffalo and the cashier (who was barely old enuff to sell beer) said something which I did not understand so she repeated it and I still had to make her repeat it again. It was that time that I heard her say "would you take your sunglasses off?". I took my sunglasses off and she said "OK" and rang my beer up. Then I said "can you tell how old I am by looking at my eyes?" and then she said one of those things that make you realize that you truly haven't heard everything! She said "No, I was looking to see if your pupils were dilated !" I almost went ballastic but instead I just said "Well, child, you damned sure won't ever have to ask ME that question again !"

I plan on calling the Office tomorrow when the "manager" is there and let him or her know in no uncertain terms that, IF, for some reason she had refused to sell me beer and embarrassed me, I would have sued their ass for everything I could get !"

Footnote: no I was NOT under the influence but I may be very soon

Hate to say it, but in Texas (along with most other states) it is illegal for a shop to sell alcohol to someone who is visibly intoxicated. The reason for this is because of the sue happy public, by having a rule like this one the books, it takes the liability off the merchant who id selling the alcoholic beverages.

Sounds to me like she was just doing her job. You might want to cut the little lady some slack. Just sayin'

I understand that 100%, but that was NOT the case - - - - she was just following orders and there was NO PROBABLE CAUSE - - which the Gooberment seems to be so caught up in these days.

I have known people in my life that had very large pupils because of their particular eyesight and wouldn't that be embarrassing and uncalled for in their situation ?

My Son went into an ABC liquor store to buy orange juice one day and the cashier carded him.:eek:(he's 39) He said "you're kidding, right?" But she was serious, said even if you buy a candy bar in there she has to card you. I've been in the same store buying liquor and other stuff, never been carded. I guess it depends on how seriously that particular clerk takes their job.:LOL:

Instead of blaming the store... how about blaming the idiots in our society who make these things necessary. If you were a store owner, you would have to make the same decisions.

I won't debate this because that's not me but it reminded me of when my oldest son was toddling, I took him to the Dairy Queen to get him an ice cream cone one sunday afternoon and when I ordered "one childs vanilla cone" the waitress asked me if my son was going to eat it because she couldn't sell child's cones to adults - - - - I told her to drop the apron and roller skates and come ride around with us and make sure he was the only one that ate the cone - - - - then I would bring her and her roller skates back to the D.Q.:whacked::LOL:

Carded? ,Wish I could get carded, now wouldn't that be an ego booster!! haha

if you live in mexafornia and go to a drive through dairy and order a six pack you have get out of the car and walk around I know a guy that use to come by the shop after work and have a beer I would send one of the guys to get the beer when it was his turn to buy because they told he had get his wheelchair out of the van and get in and roll around.....ted

I've seen clerks get arrested for selling beer to under age kids that had fake ID.
The cops should be arresting the kids not the clerks.
They know they can make the stores pay big fines that kids can't pay,
then the clerks loose thier jobs. Thats just wrong.

1975 I was going to Motorcycle Mechanic School in Chicago, for lunch some of us would eat at the corner tavern. One day this lady bar tender asked me for my ID. I said are you serious? The lady got really upset and demanded I show my ID. I had a fake ID when I was 17 years old in the Army no one ever questioned it but at 29 it was kind of a compliment.

Now it's sir, sir, you forgot your change! Then it's a real treat looking for the car. GOLDEN YEARS, when do they start??

My Son, Jeff works part time at a liquor store. He is sent to "carding class" a couple of times per year. Here is where he is trained on what to look for. The Sheriff's Department has decoy's to test that all the rules are followed. They hire kids, give them fake id's and send them in to buy. When they pass the decoy test, the management gives anyone who was working that shift a bonus. If they fail (they never have), there are fines and the store is shut down for a period of time (a week or two). While I have not asked Jeff if he needs to see someones eyes, he has refused to sell to people. Some make a big fuss about it and the sheriff is called. Laws are tough and liquor sales is a tough business right now. If you get carded or are asked to see your eyes, touch your nose, stand on one leg, whatever.... don't blame the cashier, as they are following the rules made by their management or the local laws. It's the times that we are currently in - over time.... we will see more change.... some better... some worse.

There are regular ops in our region of Taranaki,,the same goes,teenagers,with fake IDs are sent into bars and other liquor outlets,including supermarkets,to buy alcohol,and,there is usually a bar owner who doesnt ask for ID,and then howls when the cops come through his door to fine the business,manager,manager on duty,etc..Not my fault,they say,we were conned...yeah,right..another sale..dont matter who..
Unfortunately,the drinking age was lowered to 18 some time ago,and has caused many problems with drunken 12-16year olds...And the funny thing is,it seems to be oh so hard to raise it back to a responsible age..[it was 20]
We have a really bad drinking culture in this country,and it doesnt seem like its going to go away in a hurry.:(
Actually,when I was 19,I could buy a six pack of beer in one of Aucklands bottle stores,just occasionaly,a few months after I turned 20,I was asked for ID,which I didnt have on me at the time...went thirsty that night..

Sir, you seem agitated. Are your pupils dilated by any chance?:D Just kidding, man. I would have been mad, too.

I got racially profiled last weekend....coming north on I19 at the border patrol checkpoint, the BP agent asked if I was smuggling any atomic bombs.....I asked why he didnt ask about drugs or human smuggling...he said old white guys only smuggle atomic bombs..... that makes sense to me!!
