I've been lucky several times in my younger days when the family and I have been traveling and would see the large hail in the road ditches so you know that you just missed it "whew". I can't imagine the damage it would do to your vehicle if you were caught traveling and something like that hit.

Some areas of the US have weather like nowhere else in the world - heavy snow, then it's tornado season followed by hot/steamy/hurricane season then a nice fall to start all over again next year. As far as the OMG stuff - does get a bit wearisome
