    Cool

In the 1979 movie Hot Stuff Jerry Reed drove around in a cool metallic blue '79 Formula that gets blown up. Just after it gets blown up his character says he only has another 782 payments to make on it!

Burt was offered the astronaut role in Terms of Endearment, but turned it down to do Stroker Ace (1983) because he promised a friend. Jack Nicholson was second choice for the astronaut and went on to get the Academy Award for best actor.

Poor Burt, he sacrificed himself to entertain us!

Stroker Ace, includes Lonnie Anderson (batteries sold separately)

I just saw Burt on some TV show where they recreated a modern version of the Smokey T/A. Burt doesn't look real healthy IMO, kinda thin and not very peppy. I hope he is ok.

He made a recent guest appearance in the spy show Burn Notice.

Gotta love Hooper, Subaru Brat pickup being driven backwards at 45 mph, naked chick jumping out of a birthday cake and Jan Michael Vincent ('ol Mr Airwolf),...what is that if not art?

I pretty much like all of his "box office flicks" but the thing that I respected more about Burt was the way he used the Geniuses in the entertainment field to the best of their ability - - - - - speaking of Jackie, Jerry, Sally, Dom and many others. Good casting just plain ROCKS

As far as Smokey & The Bandit goes; it takes a great actor to make a big 180 HP car look fast, but IMO, Jackie Gleason was the real star of the show. Thats why they don't call it The Bandit and Smokey. haha.

But I am a huge fan of Burt Reynolds' films. Smokey & the Bandit, Stroker Ace, Hooper, Cannonball Run and Navajo Joe are some of my all-time favorites.

I had an '80 turbo. It was a stone from a dead stop, but had a pretty good passing gear and top end. It had a Jimmy Carter speedometer too, so it would never go over 80 mph.

Why this film never got an Academy Award I will never know.

All great comedic car movies. But cannot compare to "The Gumball Rally" The first movie of this this type and still the best.

    Gumball Rally

Some of the featured cars: - 1966 Ford Shelby Cobra 427 "Side Oiler" (Cobra Team) - 1974 Ferrari Daytona (Ferrari Team) - 1974 Porsche 911 Targa (Porche Team) - 1971 Dodge Polara 440 police car (Dodge Team) - 1970 1/2 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (Camaro Team)

"Junior...remind me when we get home to smack your mama!"

I still like Smokey and the Bandit maybe because of it filming in Georgia. I remember them setting up there trailers on the loop exit ramp at hwy 20 and Ga 400. I could be wrong but I think someone in Georgia built the engine for the movie car. I also read I think they used the 55 from two lane black for some of the sound bites.
Here is a nice video of then and now pictures from the movie. I remember riding the roller coaster at Lakewood as a child.
    enjoy

Wow somebody sure did alot of foot work to get the before and after photos for that clip! Sad to see the old fair grounds in such a sad state.
