I hate selling stuff!!!

Just put some stuff on another site to sell.
Washer and a dryer and a car dolly.
I towed one time from Texas to Florida and would not tow with a dolly again unless I had a moter home. I was doing about 70 when I came accrossed some ruff road and almost lost control.
I had to slam on the brakes and turn to the shoulder to keep from rolling it over. From now on what ever I tow will be completely up on a trailer.
I hate trying to sell stuff though, everyone tries to talk you down.
When I sold my Boxer Pups last year evryone tried talking me down, finally I just started walking towards the door and they got the idea.

I love it when people try to talk me down when trying to buy somthing.. especially when they ask me my " rock bottom price ".. I ask them there top dollar and it's 98.9% of the time lower than my price... many people just don't know what " price is FIRM " means..

I'm asking $30 for a garden tractor snow blade. painted/ greased, just needs mounted on a tractor.. 1 guy stops and offers $5 for it. then gets mad when I turned him down. I even told him $20 would get it, but he was insistant on $5

You can barely get a cheap burger and fries for $5 and he wants a working tractor blade for that much? Good luck.

Jeez, I like to dicker on price but I at least have the sense to make my opening offer reasonable. to me haggling is part of the game. but $5 on a $30 is just disrespectful.

Been doing it for awhile trying to clear out old project left overs.

It seems that FIRM means nothing to anyone but you. I often tell people to stay home if they are not prepared to pay the stated price. I've already done the bargaining/haggleing and the price is set. They ask anyway.

I get trades offers from assorted household junk to far inferior parts tho I state NO trades, Even had a guy offer his WIFE for a night to bring his price up to mine on a car sale once-I passed tho she was a looker. If I'll consider a trade I'll state it.

Tho I state NO shipping on some items + NO paypal they still ask. I often get sales pitches on how I should use PP. Been there ,done it- NEVER again.

No delivery means I cannot/ Will NOT deliver by any means up to + including paying a towing company out of my pocket.

I have gotten to the point that I am going to list ONE BIG list on CL and let it run. After a couple more months what is left is going in the crusher.

We have had some good luck lately with craigslist. Of course there are the ones that ask your bottom price or make an offer without even seeing the item - which of course is an immediate delete. Then there are the 419 scammers that want to send twice as much and their agent - another delete button. So far, all have paid asking price without a dicker regardless of the fact that we do have a somewhat lower price. One way we found to weed out the lookers is to ask them to call, regardless of whether they send their phone number. I think it gets the real buyers instead of the "maybe's". Then we might not sell something, but so far, we have done well enough for new tires for the camper @$200/each plus register it for 2010.

Anyone want a couple of bare early almost virgin 351W blocks? One with a crank? Cheap!! :LOL::LOL::LOL:

i hate selling stuff but did do it on e bay. things have slowed way down so i do not buy to sell any more i have been bit on busted/hurt parts that look good in a dark shop till i get them to my shop and find some thing i did not see that i could not re sell .when selling on e bay at the time i did get e mails the will you take 1/2 of what you want .or end it now and sell it to me so i can screw you .i would tell them no there is no buy it now and watch there world come apart then i get hate mail from some nut job.. i do not like to be screwed down on price on used or new ..parts sometimes there is some movement so i may work with some one that i have sold more then a thing to. i get piss off very fast if i give someone a brake on work labor and they want to pay way less then the price before the job started .i must be a fool i do not screw any one on price if they are to hi on work i look for some else . if i think they may want to much for a part or tools i may ask if they can do better if they say no i say thanks for there time and i move on. the great thing about e bay is you do not have someone pulling your chain coming over every day OH i see you still have that...now you will take less for it .or what i have money with me :3dSMILE:

I'm getting to hate Craigslist because of all the spam crap emails and calls. Everything from I can sell it for you at a greater price, you don't need to sell I have a way for you to make more money, go to this link, blah, blah, blah.

I put my sister’s 2009 Dodge Ram Crew cab on Craigslist and all I got was scammers they wanted to send a check and me give the shipper the difference. I cut the ad after the first day.

Firm means nothing. I dropped my sisters New Truck with 219 miles on it from $28,000
To $25,500 firm. She offered it to her classmate from 40 years ago for $24,000 so her son could get it. I was working on a plan where he could pay a portion down and the remainder within a reasonable amount of time and her having $500 good faith money that she would keep if he could complete the deal. I gave the guy my word, everyone was happy then my sister sold it to a neighbor for $22,500 I came unglued. Not only did she loose the $1,500 but also for the first time since I can remember I was told, “I went back on my word.”

My sister said she tried to call me I stepped out for 10 minutes; she said she didn’t know what to do. After trying to help her since her Husband died for the past two Months of doing everything I could possibly do. This was yesterday, she told me Friday the guy was interested and would let her know by Saturday afternoon, he waved a check for $22,500 in front of her and she took it instead of waiting for me to call her back.

Go back and read my 0932 post from this morning - they have to respond to me via email - I will NOT = never ever = post my phone number. If they respond with their phone in their email, I will, maybe, give them my number via email back. That depends on whether they are using good American idiomatic English and aren't offering me a better way to sell or send their agent with a check. If they then call me, then I'll consider it legit. On small stuff, I put it in my truck and meet them at the corner gas station instead of 'inviting' trouble into my home.

Craigslist can be a good tool, you just have to use common sense and patience.

Atleast I am not alone when it comes to selling things.

We have a guys '57 chebbie for sale at the shop--it's nasty but nevertheless it's a '57 2 door sedan with a good title.... Asking price is $2500.00 Some clown was tire kickin' on it yesterday, sez the price is too high, would we take $1500.00? My quick answer was no, but we'll take $3,000.00.... He was still scratching his head as he drove away....

I hate dealing with the public, and my selling price is just that, my price. Not much is selling right now anyway, but that sure doesn't mean I'm gonna give my stuff away to some vulture so he can double his money when things improve!

In my ads I always state something like the following:


$150 FIRM or $200 if you wish to haggle.

Saves lots of time and I have always sold at the firm price (which was a deal to begin with)

I was trying to sell a truck toolbox on CL a few months ago.. never did CL b4 at that time and when a guy asked for my number I gave it to him.. he did call and sounded interested. but for the same day, I got an extra charge from USBI on my phone bill for like $80.. called them on it and it was an 'undisclosed charge'.. I told them it wasn't mine and after 4 months it was gone from the bill... the guy never did come to look at it:rolleyes:

I do give out my phone number, but not until I exchange a few emails and sense there legit
