    Anyone into guns? Target shooting

Here lately I am going for the 22lr 100 yard shot. Oh its possible but with 1" groups is the challenge. I was talking to some guys and hear that 200yrds is possible from a 22lr. with groups of 2.5". Lot a things come into play. Anyways anyone do long distance target shooting or just precise placement of the bullet. Any links? Anyone can hit a basketball at 100 yards with a 22lr but what about a quarter?

neat discussion of the drop of a .22 bullet at 100 yds. Trouble is that your powder charge is at the mercy of the loader unless you reload...not many people reload .22 rimfires

Thanks . This is another important key, got it from your link.

We can do the same thing for Federal's subsonic target load. Match shooters favor this load because the turbulence that accompanies transitioning through the sound barrier is absent.

Heres another link with all kinds of good info.

Shooting is one of those things I have been doing since I was a pup. Punched a lot of holes in paper, but just never got into that as a discipline. I prefer games where I can get a little target feedback, like Cowboy Action Shooting (since 1989), or Silhouette Shooting, or Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays. I also enjoy booming away at real long distance targets with my .45-70, but I do not often do exceedingly well at it. IPSC and other tactical games are a little too intense for my taste, but interesting to watch.

The indoor range I used to frequent in NorCal had a precision .22 cal. "league" where they shot single one inch targets on a piece of paper about 3 by 4 inches at varying distances - that range had a 75 yard range rated for up to 458 Win. - they shot five shots at the card, and the idea was to get them all in one hole, no score, but bragging rights and ranking. They shot different classes, rimfire, WMRF, and centerfire, and several distances. Some of those cards were absolutely amazing; I remember one that had the single hole, just a wee shade over .22 inches, dead center, and for giggles, he had shot the course two times on the same card at 75 yards; it doesn't get much better than that; ten .22 cal. bullets through the same hole.

Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

I'm into target shooting but with guns with a bit more punch. I tend to try & be as accurate as possible to 100 yrds. but also go a bit longer. I tend to utilize iron sights & utilise rifles & hand guns. Ya never know when you'll need them.

Bought my step son a 22lr but have yet to put a round through it ...... son.

My wife and I both go to the local indoor range occasionally, but it's all handguns. There aren't any long distance ranges around here for rifles (that I know of). As far as handguns go, we have all kinds of calibers from .22 to .45. We each have a Taurus PT-92 (9mm) semi-auto. Those are really nice accurate range guns, but a little large to carry comfortably. She also has a PT-1911 (.45 ACP) which is her favorite range gun, but also too big to conceal easily. She carries a .357 snubby. At the range, I like my Taurus PT-945 (.45 ACP). As for carrying, it depends on what kind of clothes I'm wearing. I usually cary a Charter Arms .44 Bulldog Pug or a Taurus PT-145 (.45 ACP), but if I don't have a baggy enough shirttail to conceal either of those I carry a Keltec .380 in my pocket.

My wife and I both belong to a local gun club and the NRA. We used to shoot a whole lot more but the price and availability of ammo has put a stop to that. Since we can still get shotgun shells we now shoot Sporting Clays and are members of the National Sporting Clays Association. 12 different stations and 8-10 clays per station. pretty challenging and a lot of fun.

If you want accuracy, 17HMR and a decent rifle will keep you inside a thumbtack at 100 yards.

I love my 17HMR, but it doesn't like wind. As far as 22cal I put 5 rounds in a golf ball at 200yds a while back, oh wait that was a 22-250.

Golf ball shooting is too much fun, just set it loose on your backstop hill and you have execute your follow up shot within 5 to 10 seconds depending on the distance your shooting. with bigger bores it get's real exciting because it can take you that long to find where it lands. With the .17 I can usually win lunch from one of my buddies.

Golf balls, paper targets,......way too tame. A freind of mine works with explosives. He makes exploding targets we set under and in things. You know when you hit it! But you can only hit it once. And make sure the object is angled back not forward. We looked like a bunch of Keystone cops one time when a 20lbs piece of steel went 500 feet high and was coming down where we were standing. I'm going to try to find the video.
