For all that you guys have said and more is why I'm getting the 300 win mag. I know what you mean about the kick and the "scope slam". Around here it's usually a long shot for deer, so accuracy counts. And for the bigger game it's nice to have some kick to the bullet when it gets there. I honestly didn't feel the kick of the 7mm mag when we were deer huntinting. I think at that point adrenaline is on overload and nums the rest.

One of my friends has been shooting a remington 7mm mag for most of his hunting life. His best friend shoots the 300 win mag. He said his next rifle will be a 300 too. For around here with the little deer a 30 06 is great with a smaller recoil, but the 300 actually isn't that much worse, and gives me the ability to use it with bigger game. I'd love the fill our new freezer with some Elk some day, good eating and lots of it. Thanks for your thoughts. Steve.

Barb I'm already doing that with my deer!
Made a venison meatloaf using one part sausage, one part deer and one part beef. It came out excelent! Problem is those little blacktails don't go far! But if I get an Elk, I'll send you some!
