Hey Guys ; I’ve got a good DMV story for you.
I had been driving for a trucking company for years when this happened too me.
It took place in Lake Whales, Florida when they switched from the old license
to the new CDL’s.
I got a call from the DMV saying that they couldn’t find any records of me ever taking a driver test for the CDL, I told them that’s because I was grandfathered
in under the old license. They said that it didn’t matter that I would have to come down and take a driving test for the CDL. So I went down to take the test.
Well I did some maneuvers around the parking lot for them, then the young lady that was giving me the test, said now we have to take a road test.
She climbs up in the passenger seat and starts giving me directions on to busy roads. She then instructs me to drive in to this residential neighborhood, now keep in mind I am driving a semi with a 60 inch sleeper and a 53foot trailer attached.
Now this was a narrow street we were on and if another car was coming
one of us would have to put our right side tires in the grass to keep from hitting the other. Anyway she Instructs me to stop, then says to do a 3 point turn around without touching the grass on either side of the road. HUH!!! I looked at her like she was out of her mind, and said calmly, mam I don’t think I can do that.
She then instructed me to do the best I can, I said OK!.
I got turn half the way around and she instructed me to stop again.
Now at this time the truck is about one foot away from the house in front of me
and about two feet from the house behind me. She climbs down out of the truck
walks out a little ways turns and looks back at the truck, then puts her hands on her hips and starts walking back to the truck. After climbing back in to the cab she says, she didn’t think the truck was that long. Now I am thinking LONG the dang thing
was almost too wide to be on that street. I then said mam, do you mind if I ask you a question, she said no go ahead. I asked if she had ever given the CDL test before, she said no I was her first. HE! HE! HE!
I know one thing, there was some pissed off people when they got home,
because I tore the crap out of some poor folks front yards.
