check the batteries in the smoke detector

The wife likes to bake at night.. sometimes things bubble over..

nothing like getting woken up @ 3:00AM to a smoke alarm...

Just replaced those after a 3a.m. fire drill a few mounths ago. God D@#$ thing sets all the alarms off at 120 decibels I don't think it will be a fire that gets us, but a false alarm! I thought the system is centrally wired with batteries just as a backup, but every year it goes through a set!

You could call the Maytag repairman, but he's probably busy taking care of all them washing machines and couldn't get at it til later....

Speaking of detectors, I bought a CO one a while back and left it on the shelf in my kitchen. My pilot light on my old furnace kept going out and I'd have to relight it, figured it was just the thermalcouple so I replaced that and all was fine. I decided to plug in the CO detector and it kept going off, I'd shut it down, move it to another plug, replace the battery and it still kept going off. I couldn't believe it was really working properly so after a couple of days I decide to get the gas company in for a free check. He was here 2 minutes and told us to get outside and he was going to open all the doors and windows and shut down my furnace, it wasn't safe to be inside. Good thing it was -20C outside and I had to go to work.

I called in not able to work and the mad rush to buy a bunch of space heaters to keep my pipes from freezing was on. I could only warm it to about 60F for three days until I found a furnace to put in, which is a whole different storey.

We're knocking the house down in a couple of months to build a new house and they all wanted $6-7000 for a new one. I phoned the guy doing our new HVAC system and he brought me a furnace he just pulled out and checked, installed it with the new ducting and hauled away my old one for $450. I'm telling everyone I know about this guy he was a great help when I needed it.

Anyways, the carbon monoxide detector is a good investment.

We bought one of the Maytag Neptune front loader washers about 7 years ago and it has had it's problems. Our experience with it would probably cause us to avoid major Maytag products in the future. They seem to have a lot of features, but sometimes the headaches that go with them make them a poor choice.

The Maytag dealer has been excellent, can't say the same about the product.
