Here is a link, for the Maytag corp fridge recall. If you have one of many brands they make, they may be recalling yours. It seems a relay to the compressor fails and starts your house on fire. I called the number and was surprised to find out that we are one of the recalls. Have to setup an appt to get it fixed for free, but held 30minutes with no one answering. Will call back tomorrow.

The wife likes to bake at night.. sometimes things bubble over..
nothing like getting woken up @ 3:00AM to a smoke alarm...
Just replaced those after a 3a.m. fire drill a few mounths ago. God D@#$ thing sets all the alarms off at 120 decibels I don't think it will be a fire that gets us, but a false alarm! I thought the system is centrally wired with batteries just as a backup, but every year it goes through a set!

Speaking of detectors, I bought a CO one a while back and left it on the shelf in my kitchen. My pilot light on my old furnace kept going out and I'd have to relight it, figured it was just the thermalcouple so I replaced that and all was fine. I decided to plug in the CO detector and it kept going off, I'd shut it down, move it to another plug, replace the battery and it still kept going off. I couldn't believe it was really working properly so after a couple of days I decide to get the gas company in for a free check. He was here 2 minutes and told us to get outside and he was going to open all the doors and windows and shut down my furnace, it wasn't safe to be inside. Good thing it was -20C outside and I had to go to work:eek:.
I called in not able to work and the mad rush to buy a bunch of space heaters to keep my pipes from freezing was on. I could only warm it to about 60F for three days until I found a furnace to put in, which is a whole different storey.
We're knocking the house down in a couple of months to build a new house and they all wanted $6-7000 for a new one. I phoned the guy doing our new HVAC system and he brought me a furnace he just pulled out and checked, installed it with the new ducting and hauled away my old one for $450:D. I'm telling everyone I know about this guy he was a great help when I needed it.
Anyways, the carbon monoxide detector is a good investment.

We bought one of the Maytag Neptune front loader washers about 7 years ago and it has had it's problems. Our experience with it would probably cause us to avoid major Maytag products in the future. They seem to have a lot of features, but sometimes the headaches that go with them make them a poor choice.
The Maytag dealer has been excellent, can't say the same about the product.
Maytag is alot better now, they were bought out by Whirlpool a couple of years ago,
everything is now Whirlpool with Maytag name on it.
That also means that Whirlpool also has to take care of the recalls.
Also just had to change the batteries...we have 8 with batteries and 4 without...all are also wired 120VAC (the batteries are for power outage backups)....when we built the house the code says that we needed 24 or so smoke detectors but I talked the inspector down to the 12....a major pain hauling a 12 ft ladder around changing batteries!! We did the battery change last week.....before they started chirping at 3am!

Nothing like feeling your heart palpitate with the air raid sirens going off. The first time it happened I told the local hardware store owner about it. He said, Steve if you think thats bad, imagine us in our new home three weeks after this store had burned to the ground! He's a great guy, running the local Rex Hardware. Been in his family for almost 100 years. We were devastated when it wet up in smoke. A real piece of history gone! The community threw them a pot luck for their grand reopening a few years ago now. 500 people brought food! Nothing like a good hardware store!:cool:Quote:
