stupid things you did when you were young

Lets hear some things your did with you cars that at the time you thought was KOOL. I rember I was about 24 and was with my girl and had just bought a used 65 chevy SS with a wild 327 engine. One of the first things I did when I bought this car was to change to a dual 4 barrel set up with carter carbs, and then a wild cam which I can't rember the specs. I had gone to my buddys house and after way to many beers and wanting to show my girl how much rubber I could lay, I dropped it into 2 nd gear and let loose with about a 300 ft, burn. Well with the cherry bombs and my tires screaming I woke up the whole block as I found out the next day. But the real branner was I had almost bald tires to start with(no money after a new intake) and after the great burn out, BANG went the back tire and wouldn't you know the spare was flat. People came out and I felt about 2' tall as they laughed at me. Well I don't do 300' burn out anymore, but must admit 50' are still there and I still have that smile on my face when I do it.
Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

I was home on leave from the Army 1966 I was 19. I had a 1965 GTO 389 tri power 4-speed posi rear end. I had to take my sister for an appointment; I stopped at my buddy’s Standard gas station that he was working at. When I left the station I lit up the tires laid rubber for a good distance by the time I hit 2nd gear I saw a set of lights in my rear view mirror. I tried to tell the cop the gas pedal stuck but he wasn’t buying it. A trip to the police station with a fine was not too good. Every time I see my old friend he reminds me while he is laughing about seeing me burn out in front of the cop. That car got me in more trouble then any of the others I had.

when i was 23 i went up our county to let the car do some top end. got it up to 110 and turned around and headed home. hit a bump pulling into my driveway wne the car shook and came to a stop. got out and my drivers side front wheel was folded up under my car. The upper control arm had broke. Got it towed to the suspension garage and was told how lucky I was that the other one had not also broke. Have not done that again.

    Hell, I'm STILL young.

I used to like to do a 180 when the roads were covered in packed snow. I was pretty good at it, and would parallel park the car that way. Never got into any trouble with it, but the neighbors HATED it.

A buddy of mine and myself were out drinking at about midnight. We were in a 69 firebird with a 455 4 speed. Waiting for a light to change, racked it up, dumped the clutch, did a huge burnout with a cop sitting right in a prking lot off the intersection, he saw the whole thing, we did not even see him until he flipped his lights on. He was very disspleased with our stupidity, and we were both 17 years old at the time. We both had to take defensive driving class, I guess because we were both laughing so hard during the crime.

New Years Eve some 30 years ago. Myself and 2 buddies decide to have our own party and cruise up to Cape Cod, "just because"... After to many hours and to much beer and blackberry brandy. We're going down some road and it just disappears into a lake! We freak out and figure some terrible tragedy had occured so we spin the car around and hustle back to this gas station we saw earlier. We pull in and ask the fella standing in there what happened to the road? He says "What Road?", we yell back, "the road that turns left down here and it's under water now"! He says, shaking his head, "THAT'S A BOAT RAMP YOU DUMBASSES"! "You boys better get your butts home, You've had enough!" We all stared at each other and realized he was right. Feeling about 2 inches tall we headed home. Once we got to 195 west we all settled in for the trip home and of course we all fell asleep! We awoke to the sounds of the car smacking off the guard rail on the right side. We pulled over and had to get out of the drivers door as the right side was trashed!

I'll just leave it at the next morning was pure hell. From our hangovers to our parents... It wasn't good. But we realized we're lucky to be alive!

    34_40,

Sorry to laugh but that is one of the best stories I have read in some time. That was as bad as some of the stupid things I did when I was young. A friend of mine and I get together from time to time and talk about all the dumb things we did as kids and wonder how we are still alive. But I am still happy that I was a kid before the Govt. decided to take over and make everything safe for us.

I'll have to adopt Too Many 2 Count as my temporary alias, if he'll allow it; that fits me to a "T". A goodly part of them were related to pushing things a bit too far with my right foot, though. I could come up with things for days, and you'd all get bored, so I will jus leave it at that.

im the poster child for "STUPIDITY" way to many to count and im not sure the statue of limitations has expired on a few of them!

well i have a couple of abused cars to my credit and somehow i survived being beatin to death by my parents
one night after an evening of fellowship with my brothers while on leave from the army, we were
out and about scouting for new members for our bible study class and where else
do you go to find new members ? we decided the local bars , strip joints and lola's
home for un-wed mothers would be the best places to try first (this is my story and im sticking to it)
after about 12 hours of this we decided it was time to go home as the hour was late about 2:00 am ,it had been raining most of the night and as i came to a stop sign i braked to slow down and started to skid , and skid we did all the way across the intersection and into a ditch on the other side of the road , we exited the vehicle to inspect our situation and seen that we were stuck partly on a railroad track with the front wheels touching the ground and the back wheels were about 3 feet off the ground ,
after disscussing our situation we decided we could put the car in reverse and rock it back and forth tetter totter fashion and when the rear wheels touch it would help back the car off the track , sounds good
so we started rocking the car back and forth and it did work , as the wheels touched the pavement the car started to move a little at a time and then finally the car started backing
off the track , you can just imagine our laughter as our master plan started to work
so as the car started backing off the track an onto the road i ran around to jump back into the car
and to my surprise the door "WAS LOCKED" with the window up! like i said it was raining out that night.
all we could do was watch the car back up the road about a hundred feet into a ditch on the other side of the road and flip over ..we had to walk home that night in the rain , about 6 miles and my two brothers decided (see story below)i was the one who had to tell mom where her 59 caddy was the next morning..

when i was 10 in 1969 we were living in san diego while the old man was on one of his tours of nam
my brothers were out in front of the house in his 55 gasser doing burnouts in front of the
house , my older brother then parked the car in the driveway because he said later one of the carbs
linkage was sticking , me i didnt know anything about anything other than the fact i wanted to
do a burnout myself , so i cranked up the car and backed it into the street , mashed the clutch
stomped my foot in the gas dumped the clutch , and then things got interesting , the car got sideways
and turned back up the driveway , i let off the gas but the car keep screaming and bounced of the side
of my moms pickup truck and went into the wall of the dining room of our house , my older brother actually
caught all the crap over that one for not keeping a better eye on me , yeah he kinda kicked my ass later
my brothers fixed the house and the car and i still dont know if the old man ever found out , and im not asking about it either..

    Flh4Speed,

You guys haven't changed since we were on the old Car & Enthusiast site. Thanks for the laughs and proving that I am not the only young terror that survived my younger years. Though I did manage to not run into a house.
