$1.97/gallon just North of Richmond Virginia, BUT (!) President-Elect Obama is getting set to reinstate the off-shore ban on drilling. All that "Drill Baby Drill" and "Drill Here, Drill Now" means nothing now! Next summer we will be at the mercy of OPEC again. I wish I could start over with an electric/diesel hybrid three wheeler but I have too much tied up in my roadster now. Maybe the best deal is that Chevy Cobalt SS with the turbocharger but to my amazement the reviews say it looks too "plain-Jane" for the kids of today (?). It sounds like a sleeper to me, but maybe we are on the edge of a historical paradigm shift with the demise of the internal combustion engine. Why would the Democrats reverse the use of US natural resources (pleasing the Environmentalists) when there is nothing on the horizon that will substitute in the near future? Suppose the new GM hybids do give 40 miles on batteries and then kick in a gas engine, you still need gas to make a trip or long commute. Then they say we should build more little self-contained villages where people can walk or use bicycles. How long will that take? We need gas! OK build solar, wind, tide (Oh no, never nuclear) etc. but leave the petroleum in the Gulf of Mexico for the Cubans to sell to China and at the same time keep those oil rigs out of sight from the Hollywood beach homes, etc. This is crazy to stifle US development of resources when there is no replacement except to bleed money to OPEC when our own economy is shaky. Apparently the reversal of Executive orders regarding off-shore drilling also concerns drilling on federal land in Utah and other sites within the U.S. so that petroleum resources right here will be denied.

"Self contained villages", that sounds like something between "Utopia" and communism.
Last night, playing some cards, no one had any change. Just bills. Hard to pay quarter - ante with green.
But.. we can all look to have CHANGE in our pockets in a couple years...
AND NO GREEN.
yeah, I belive CHANGE is coming, and CHANGE is all you will have left.
There has been alot of change in the last 8 years too. Yeah change. Public schools are a mess, the quality of education in the good ole USA is bellow that of most developed countries, due to lack of funding and investing in our kids future. Teachers are faced with small salaries and budgets, but large classroom populations. Health care has gotten worse. Insurance companies continue to make record profits at the expense of the patient. Yeah lots of change. More people can't afford retirement. Record numbers of people have been foreclosed on. Big financial institutions have gone bust.
Obama hasn't even entered office yet, and all of the fear mongering has started. Yeah there will be change it's called the end of self interest. It's called time to focus on the world not ourselves. It is called making sure people have a basic quality of life, and if that is socialism then I'm for it.
Without education, the care givers of this country will continue to make the same mistakes that the greed mongers have for the last 25 years.
Nobody is for supporting people who won't support themselves, but taking away education and health care is not the answer. Were in a mess folks, and we sit sit around all day pointing the finger, or we can suck it up, and move foward investing in our future!
Sorry if I offended anyone, but I have kept silent on this one and it hits too close to home. I was a teacher working 70 hours a week for many years and making less than a living wage. I've broken bones without health insurance and gone hungry to pay my bills. I've put myself through college with student loans that I have payed back. So without all those socialized systems I'd be homeless too.
I don't know if you or any other chanter of the "last 8 years" mantra is capable of taking a realistic historical view, but if you are you might learn from reading this: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122626062814011765.htmlQuote:
