CHANGE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID ON A REGULAR BASIS.

Why is it that most everybody knows to change the engine oil and filter, but most everybody ignores the automatic transmission untl it dies?

Case in point. Bought a new Nissan Quest minivan in 1994 to use in my business (125 miles each day in stop/go traffic). Dropped the pan, cleaned the screen and filled with new fluid each 20,000 miles. This did not change the fluid that was in the converter, but diluted what was in there with 7 quarts of new fluid each time. Sold the van several years later with 195,000 on the clock. The trans still shifted through the gears and hooked up just like it did the day I bought it. The maintenance cost me $135 total and my time, but compare that to another driver who does no maintenance on the AT and foots the bill for two trans rebuilds in the same time frame.

The F350 kept going through Pinion seals,..... so for a while I had a "total loss oil system" on that,..... but ya' know ever sence I fixed it,... I never checked it.
