Lots of good read in the jalopy journal.
I have a bunch of good friends there but don't spend much time, it's too busy. A thread will fall off page three in a couple hours.
There is a tremendous wealth of talent and experience there. Any crap you have to go through is well worth it to have the likes of flat earnie or the Dirtys chip in and lend a hand with questions. Especially on vintage stuff.

You just have to learn to eat the meat and spit out the bones. I don't condone that ill behavior at all but it is easily avoided and worth the effort.

I have a grand total of 12 posts there under my current name (same thing happened there to my screen name as here), but have probably another 20 or so under my old name. I mostly lurk, and at that, seldom as there are just too many forums, often with the same info that don't allow some posts.

My biggest complaint is that they really don't have the forum broken down like most do, like here in categories so you tend to lose some cohesiveness and that many wont go back more then a few hours. I did go in with my eyes open - but some folks do seem to be intolerant of others views so I try to avoid their confrontational issues - and the language sometimes gets a bit too far into nastiness - but, that's HAMB. Then there is my car which is well billeted

Fwiw, the HAMB now has classifications for posts, Technical, History, etc.
You can note the classification in advanced search and it's been a help so far.

I just re-bookmarked my favorites as I had been just going directly in on the message board - Thanks

I will say I like it, I check in pretty often just like here. Guess I just haven't been beat up there yet, most of my beat up's were in my younger days, someone knocking me through windows that weren't opened. Thank God those days are over!!!

It's a large group with lots of activity on the board. You can check in several times a day, and always find new posts.

All kinds of info there, but a couple things have driven me away. If you are not a solid fan of vintage rods ....the way they see it.... you will get heavy criticism, and there is no flexibility on that point. People who don't favor those cars will be labeled "gold chainers", or simply dismissed as not knowing anthing about "true" hot rods.

I would not recommend the site, unless you think primer, bias ply tires, and a 6 cylinder are components of the ultimate rod. I should mention that there are many members who like other things....but they remain silent.

The other thing that bothers me are the 4 cookies that are planted in my computer every time I visit, which slows it down a lot. I emailed them and complained, but the moderator clearly did not care if I liked it or not.......so I stopped visiting.

Yep, all of the comments above are pretty accurate. It has a huge membership, with some heavy hitters in car related businesses who are members, like Jesse James, and supposedly Jay Leno lurks (or maybe posts under a secret user name ) Things move fast there, post wise, and if you are into traditional hot rods and customs there is a wealth of information to be gotten.

I lurk, but don't post there, and find a lot of interesting threads to read. It is true that the majority of the members are focused on a very narrow area of hot rodding...........namely what they feel are cars built in the "traditional" way. Many don't like modern additions to a car, like electric fans and alternators, and some have no reservations about voicing their opinions when they feel the need.

But if you go on with a good attitude and don't try to change the tone of the forum, you will probably be ok. What ever you do, do not use the two words that will get you blasted, and those words are RAT ROD, The popcorn comes out when someone slips that term in.

A lot of our members are also on there, my own Son Dan is a member, and is treated very well. His being a member there is one reason I don't post on it.............he is only a member of that one forum, and it wouldn't be fair for me to encroach on his one little piece of privacy. I let him have that one all to himself.
