    Dishwasher in the garage.

I was cruising the craigslist adds today and started thinking of all the dishwashers folks are always giving away, then i came up with the idea of throwing one in the garage for a parts washer. It would be a fairly simple hook up, then the wife would not get mad for using the one in the house! Has anyone ever done this? Or thought about this?

Not a bad idea, what would you use in the dishwasher to remove the oil/grease off the parts? I know there are water-soluble cleaners, we have those in our shop parts cleaners, but how would you plumb that into the dishwasher water?

a self cleaning oven would be good too. They clean at about 900F that would bake most carbon off greasy parts

Not to dampen the great idea but the grease will settle in the plumbing . Don't know if that would be a good trade for clean parts . I just use cardboard and pitch it .

AAhh wait i see a self contained unit with a supply tank great idea.

The thing i was worried about is, where would you run the drain if one was to use a degreaser in it? It would work ok if you just ran water and soap, then you could run it anywhere, but dumping degreaser could cause some trouble. Unless you could do a recirculating system, where it just reused the degreaser, but then the supply would most likely have to be under pressure.

seems like a HF dirty water pump would do the trick.. you could use a couple tanks, ( 1 on top of eachother ) a oil filter relocation kit to filter big crap.. connect the tanks with it, make sure both are full of your cleaning soloution when you start.. pump the fluid into the dishwasher, then dump the discharge in the top tank..

the soap will emulsify the grease you can build a tank you will not need a filter just trap and a oil skimmer if you want

I don,t know it wasn,t me.But after reading it,I have tried a few thinks.I had some Y block valve covers and valley pan that I cleaned that way.I did wash them off the best I could first(they where not dripping with grease). They came out just like they had been steam cleaned. All ready for paint.
